TomR Wrote:I don't plan to fix channels daily. I was thinking of just making it a habit of doing it once a week (creature of haibit) opposed to trying to remember to look through the log file every day or so. I guess the other indication would be looking in the guide to see if it's missing data.

What would be nice is if there was some indicator in the GUI that would indicate that the channels need fixing instead of just the log file or the guide.

I know I've successfully fixed channels before (at home) but I don't ever remember getting a True response from "Is theTVdb online?" at home.

I thought you had alread build in a web timeout value already on the TS tab. I have changed this value from 1500 to 6000 but still no luck. Is this not what this is for?

Your be glad to hear, I've trimmed down my channels. I've filtered down the include1.chl file Ultra produces and am try to use Ultra on the new XML file (at home) but no luck since theTVdb is offline for me. Sad

The web timeout check does not affect the timeout for just seeking the web site.

For each TVdb.com query, there is first a check to see if online, with a built in hard-coded timeout of 1 sec. If that succeeds (if I get a response within 1 sec) then Ultra will try to get a specific xml file. That specific file may be giving grief and that's where it needs a lot of web timeout. But I won't even try to get that file if I can't see the root web site (which means forget about the file, the site is unavailable.

And that's why you don't have any success, because Ultra is giving up before your dial-up connection let's you see the main site...

Thank you gentlemen for your help, all is well now. I was just too impatient for my own good when reading the wiki. I saw the bolded comment regarding using the version of XMLTV, downloaded it from the link, and thought I was done. I went through the whole command line process in XMLTV for configuring, downloading the schedule, and outputting the file (obviously did that wrong!), when I could have just used your already made batch files.

Great program! The WAF has already climbed to new heights now that she can see all the additional info. Thank you very much.

Any chance for a user configurable timeout? My recording server also serves as a torrent box and the response time can be a little slow sometimes. I was testing today and it said that thetvdb.com was offline. It wasn't. I quit the torrents and suddenly it could see thetvdb.com again.

I assume this was just a time out issue.

I'll be making it configurable soon...

Release: ** Enhancer: 2.0.3395.36177

Added 'Online Check' timeout to the TS tab (Remember to click set if you change the default 1000 ms)

I've also added the code so that if the time out is set to 0, Ultra will consider the connection is good and return a True. This skips the check altogether

For a little history, the reason why the connection checking is even there, is theTVdb.com was really flaky for a while. It was faster to check the site first before checking on each file (which might not even be there anyway)

I've set my own machines to 0 for a Online Check Time out. If in the middle of the night, theTVdb.com decideds to be flaky, it would be a long process as each file waits the entire Web Timeout.

At the least the mechanism is there in case it's one of those days...

Edit: Even Dialup users could set the Online Check timeout to 0 until the days when TVdb.com starts acting up...

I've tried different values from 60000 to 0 and still get a false response. (yes I click set after each change. I even tried restarting Ultra to see if that would make a difference. I'm guessing that as the number increases from the default (1500) to 60000 (or when set to 0) the time that it takes to give a false response should increase as well. It does seem to make a difference on the value that is set it always gives the msgbox in about 1.5 seconds.

I have no idea what is going on. With 'Online Check' set to 0, There is no check at all. The function doesn't try anything and just passes a true.

That means that you set the 'web timeout' to whatever (15000) and the 'Online Check' to 0, click set and then click 'Is theTVdb.com online?' and there is no way at all for it to give a false.

I made one small change when setting the new 'online check' on the TS tab.

@TomR, this change is quite insignificant as the only difference now is After you change the value and click 'set' the value is changed internally immediately and your don't require an Ultra restart.

You said that after setting the value, you restarted Ultra, and so that means the last two releases will work exactly the same...

I have to say now, that I'm ready to drop this. I don't mean anything terrible by this, and I do appreciate your help (and want that to continue) but it seems that this issue is a one-off. Certainly Dial-up internet is quite rare nowadays. And it still makes be go 'hmmmm' why your tooltips don't work.

It seems like I'm chasing my tail. David81 pushed me to make the timeout configurable because he was a second users, supposedly with the same problem. That's cool. Through adding the setting, I've just added the option to disable the check and now Ultra is even faster.

I download torrents too and have seen a sluggish connection. But never trouble getting a True from Is theTVdb.com with a timeout of 1000 ms. (except on bad days)
