UltraXMLTV Enhancer Version 2 - rc1

The previous version got stuck again in last night's processing. I tried the new version (42518) this morning and it ran successfully but much slower (taking more than twice as long as Ultra usually takes). I did notice a message flash during the run that TVDB was off line. It must have been an intermittent situation because after the run I checked it from the TS page and it was on-line.

I will take robust operation over speedy processing any day.

I suppose it's not a fair test of speed if theTVdb.com was being flaky.

I had a few fetch failed in my morning logs too. I'll be keeping an eye on this...

I also notice a speed difference. Instead of the usual 20-40 minutes it took 3 hours. I did not notice any issues with TVDB.com. In fact during the enhancing I noticed it was so slow so I went to the TS tab and checked if both the TVDB.com and EPGTools.com were on line and received a 'TRUE' response for both. But the enhancing was still slow.

I ran the enhance several times today and it was slow each time. None of my fetches(200+) failed.

I'm unable to test the previous version because I accidentally deleted this morning when I did the upgrade.

I did somethings that might improve performance. But I'm afraid that I might not be able to get it much faster.

While tweaking, I recognized the log events didn't really indicate what went wrong. I changed the logging.

Basically, a failed event is written when connection status is false, a time out occurs trying to download of a xml, or the read of the xml fails indicating a bad file. The last error seems to be handled by my new code which doesn't trip over the error, it steps over...

I hadn't had any problems in previous weeks but this week neither show was marked as new. Here is the entry for 24 from the original XML file:

I record most of the season of 24 before I begin watching the shows. I haven't started watching this season's shows yet but even I could have written that episode description.

The <previously-shown /> record is an indicator that the show is not a first run. I checked my XML file and didn't find any of those records in the entire file. I do know that I have gotten them previously because the program I wrote for my own use has logic for handling those records.

Correction: I was looking at the wrong file. My XML file does contain <previously-shown/> records but the listing for tonight's 24 did NOT have that record.

Seems like the network or TMS or whomever was lazy. That's the generic description. It's like the simpsons: "Homer and Marge raise Bart, Lisa and Maggie in Springfield USA"

I'm very certain there's nothing we could have done to catch this except check everything manually and manually record the show...

Woke up this morning and it ran fine last night. Will check the logs later, but maybe it was just something in the xml.
