Are these USB controlled or are the just monitoring USB power?
With my machine goingto standby or hibernate USB power is kept on......

Power monitoring. you'd need to set usb power to be off too in BIOS for the power strip to work - but then I guess you'd loose keyboard / MCE remote wake featuers too. Never a perfect world.....

If you wanted, you could splice the end of the usb power and hook it up to the 5v of an extra power supply ide plug.
So you don't ruin your power supply just get something like http://www.highpowersupply.com/product-ac-4piny.htm and splice one end off...
