What's so bad about that remote? It's got arrows, ok, numbers and playback controls. It's laid out poorly, but it seems to have the needed buttons. Perhaps there's something I don't understand.

I see why the Roku, WD and Acer remotes won't do though...

The EGreat forums (not the most useful) said it was compatible with their old remote http://www.egreatworld.com/en/forum/foru...asp?TID=66 so a harmony might be able to do it. If I get a response to my email I will pass it on.

In many ways it might be a better remote than the PCH, the volume looks to be logically in the centre, prev/next is a nice toggle, some other keys are actually in a better location play and stop. The big problem is the missing menu, home and the four colours which are used a lot on the Hauppauge/PCH remote, the angle which I use as a record would need to be added too.

As an update on alternate players, other vendors like HDX and EGreat have released DTS downmix firmware for their models which was the main advantage of the A110 up to now.

I have given up on my quest to get support from EGreat, egreatusa wasn't even willing to give me a remote to help set up. Sorry, I really thought the EG-M34A might have made a low priced alternative to the A110 but they are not a supportive company but Popcorn Hour is much better.

Wow, glad I bought the A110. My wife complains about the A110 remote (vs the MVP), it definitely is clumsier to use than the MVP remote. I was really excited about the glow-in-the-dark keys, but it doesn't last very long after you turn the lights down. They need LED back-lit keys like my old Sony remotes...

You could of course use Martins lirc tweak to use the MVP remote with it - except for the initial loading when the PCH is powered up and the PCH remote has to be used.

Sigh... this is probably the least satisfying project I have worked on (and I've worked on COBOL) It's a cheap remote for an inexpensive system, buy a Harmony which can be more than the cost of a PCH, or use a Hauppauge or MCE remote, I pretty much support the same remotes that typical PC client users buy.

I would have thought this comment would have been a "very satisfying" comment as we all know we have no real control over the WAF & you have already supplied a ready made solution to this problem with the introduction of being able to use the "exact same" remote as is used for the MVP Wink

I was thinking about this the other day, the vast majority of messages in these forum get posted when things are not going right for users (most often something they have done wrong) & reading through them you would think GB, mvpmcx2 & most plugins were totally unstable & impossible to use BUT lots & lots of us no that is TOTALLY untrue!

How can i use one of my millions of spare hauupauge remotes with the PCH does it add a number of steps to start up?
