I've been playing around with colorspace (sic) 601 and 709 because apparently 709 output will look better in HD on some monitors. An better explanation with some examples are here http://www.sigmadesigns.com/Support/chromaticity.html When I look at the examples I really can't decide which is better or worse. I am curious to hear what GB-PVR users feel about setting the colorspace.

As I mentioned some people on the NMT forums think this is is a major problem and so I have updated mvpmcx2 to support BT 709 as the default on the NMT. I figured it wasn't working because I trully don't notice any different but I have confirmed it works through the use of another NMT users's utility.

Everything is a major problem on the NMT forums!

People moan so much, and keep asking the same thing (like when will IDX subtitles be supported etc)
Then the group moaning that the PCH doesn't work with one particular Sony receiver through SPDIF for AC3, yet works with everything else - and it's obviously the PCH fault.

From that site, I think I like 709 encoding, with 601 decoding - but really is the difference that much?

It doesn't matter how big or expensive your TV is, you wouldn't notice without some side by side, at a specific level (especially with all of the movement, and not using stills)

Even side by side and if you could see a difference - who could say which was the "right" one.

i'm with JohnnyCam,
i use 601 decoding on my ati card and it makes a lot of difference on SD black levels...
doesn't seem to be visible on hd material, but i take it that's how it's supposed to work..

basically for me it makes hd and sd more similar, allowing to adjust my projector-style tv black levels to a really good, consistent black level..[hard to get just right]
and hte video seems to pop better..

so far on pch it seems to be giving me more detail in dark areas for both types..
so good job..

One good test that was developed to show the difference is this file http://www.cypheros.de/files/Testbild_co..._120sec.ts On the PCH it will alternate between the two colorspaces. I find it difficult to play on my PC except with mplayer which plays it properly
