PBS, for those of us who don't use batch files a lot, how do we use it? I would assume copy to notepad, save as filter.bat, and run from folder with .ax files? BTW when I saw the first post, I was thinking wouldn't it be nice to register them all at once. Then I saw your post!! LOL

Umm... what is MPC for? I use FFDShow for codecs right now, how does this compare? What does this do that FFDShow doesn't? And I'm on WinXP.

MPC-HC is an open source standalone player based on Media Player Classic with built in decoders similar to VLC. They also make the decoders available as standalone filters for use in any DirectShow application like GBPVR.

The MPEG-2 decoder is a continued development of the Gabest decoder (MPV Video Decoder).

yep, just save as something.bat and run it in same dir as filters you want to install..
i don't recommend placing filters in system32,etc...Smile
but like i said, mpeg2 demux isn't quite right in this one so i would register the 1.2.980 one instead...the rest seem to work fine...
[and set mpc mpeg2 demux as highest merit so it'll be default]

as for evr and dxva, it's accelerating... evr doesn't do dxva1, so it must be dxva2...it doesn't give full features like in vista, so i think that's why they say it's not supported in xp...[only partially works in xp]

u have to remember, dxva is a set of technologies, any one of which, if used, can be called dxva acceleration..
i believe evr only gives deinterlacing and post proc, no full hardware decoding....
but hey, every little bit helps..Smile

Is EVR that much better than VMR9 for picture quality?

I got 1-5% cpu when using VMR9 on 1080p h264
Will EVR get rid of the slight tearing I sometimes see on playback?

(8600GT or 9400GT which I have?)

EVR does have better color...i believe it's the color correction feature of dxva2...
but just switching to VMR9 FSE should do the trick for tearing...
and make sure 'wait for vertical refresh' or whatever nv calls it is set to on in video driver..

with evr you lose some of the aspect ratios, and inset modes..
and it's not quite as fast on skips..but otherwise works well...

personally i'd love to see evr custom ratios return..i thought the evr 'custom renderer' enabled that in the past?
cuz we may be stuck with dxva2[evr] in new os's from here on out...

No.

And remember, if you are using XP, you will have no DXVA when using EVR (same if you use VMR9 on Vista).

I would like to make use of the hardware acceleration that is available in MPC-HC.
Can I use this in GBpvr so when I play .mkv the gpu is used instead of the cpu?
