there's a a new crop of eee box pcs with HD 4530 onboard...
turns out these gpu's have the full 80 stream processors unlike the new 785g..[only 40]
plus they use a 945 intel chipset,so it is a real separate mobility HD 4530 gpu...
[like a laptop design]
power i ridiculously low, 36w power supply..

i see them on sale locally for just $359 with 250g drive and 2g mem...
comes with a media remote also..Smile

i think this is the most silent, best performing, tiniest client available...
[tho the PCH actually works more reliably than a client pc for me]
[scratch that, 26db, means there's a fan on graphics chip...]

The EB1012 sounds like it is more suitable with a faster Atom 330 (still slower than a PC) and the ION http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wH1q2VTqyLXaCw1f It is also more expensive.

are the Atoms really that much slower? and dual core much better than single?
don't they all have hyperthreading? [for pseudo dual-cpu]
i mean i use a E series 1.6 in my box and i don't notice any slower menus than a good cpu...
and with the gpu actually doing all the hard video work, is it a bad user experience on these atoms?
[i haven't had one to play with yet]
i thought since the menus were d3d now, graphics would be the bottleneck, not the cpu..
[a menu list isn't a lot of calculation, but displaying it in 3d is]

i jsut didn't like the nv9400 cards compared with the ati offerings, little things [number of codecs that work with it, PQ, etc..]
and those are only 9300's in the ion..[same just slower gpu speed]
oh they work fine...but i've seen reviews that say same thing about PQ...[tho that's always subjective]

regardless, i'm not building another client till the filters get some attention...locks up too much...PCH way better...Smile

My two year+ E4300 machine with G3000 graphics on 2GB on Vista "feels" like a faster computer than my AsRock ION 330 on Win 7 for general browsing etc. For GBPVR and XBMC on linux they are about the same, it just seems like a lot of money for a single function machine.
