Are your shows nativley recorded in mkv format or do you run a process after the recording to covert them over to mkv? If converting them over are you using the postprocessing.bat?

Ahhhh.....I see.... Wink

So how are you getting the externally produced mkv's into the GBPVR database so they show up in the recordings?

Mine only show up in the video library.

i think Vidimport does similar, but i wrote an app which takes file name + tvdb data and using the recording-dump.xml file to import "recordings" into the recordings database..

Ok, so I was reading this post about using Windows MediaCenter with Windows Home Server and I noticed in Power Pack 3 that they were including the option of integrating your MediaCenter computer with your WHS with a feature labeled "TV Archiving." I was thinking this would be really great for my GBPVR setup and my WHS. So I started searching the forum and came across this post. As I'm reading and understanding SuperSimpleArchiver should do basically the same thing, right? Am I missing something. I'm still at work so I haven't got to try it yet, I'm just trying to research things ahead of time.

Here's the WHS feature post. The part I'm interested in is about halfway down the page with a headline of "TV Archiving."

Yeah not sure how the tv archiving works, and how many hooks the WHS has into MCE. I think both being MS products, and that you run a special console on the media center machine means it's probably not accessible to third party programs.

I did have a bit of a look at it (having a WHS myself) and wasn't sure here the TV episode metadata was kept.

I'm not using MediaCenter, I use GBPVR. I just want a similar function to integrate GBPVR with my WHS. I'm hoping that by using SSA, after a recording is complete is will automatically copy to a directory within my WHS and then update the GBPVR database to point to the new file location. So even though the video file is in a new location anyone using GBPVR (or an MVP) wouldn't notice the difference and would be able to access the file just like always. Does that make sense?

You can do that by utilising the post_processing.bat file, then post_processing would call the reloc.bat file with the filename and new location as a parameter....

But why would you? Why not just set your home server recorded tv as the recording path? Use the \\homeservername\recorded tv notation in the config app (infact you may have to update the config.xml file directly) then it will write there by default.

But as I understand it, WHS has trouble sometimes writing the video as it is being recorded. Thus the idea to record on a separate machine and then transfer the files to the WHS after recording is complete.

I haven't tried setting my recordings folder to my WHS though. Have you?

No since my WHS is not on 24x7. And yes you could be right.

The post_processing option should work for you then.....
