I've moved from a fully working Windows XP install to a Windows 7 install and copied the gbpvr database and config.xml file over to make things simpler.

My problem is that on some channels I get a blank screen instead of Live TV and when I tried a recording it was a zero-byte file.

I could re-create the capture cards but I find it strange that it was working with the same config (and hardware) in Windows XP, and that it's only some channels. WMC on the same machine can play all channels.

Any suggestions?

After investigating I've got some more info.

All the channels that I can see are BBC ones and all from the same MUX. Creating a fresh capture card results in a good scan, minus all the channels from the aforementioned mux. Is this a GB-PVR scan or a Hauppauge driver problem?

Attached is the output from the ScanChannelsBDAUK app. It's log seems to show all mux's.

If you still have a copy of your original gbpvr.db3 from the XP install, compare the tuning string for one of the problem channels to the tuning string for the same channel in the new gbpvr.db3. See if this is related to the problem with the logic that changes the PIDs.

The only thing I notice is that the frequencies from the dvb-t 0113.ini file and the ScanChannelsBDA log don't match up consistently:
Code:
[TERTYPE]
1=Southern England
2=Rowridge
[DVB]
0=6
1=C34,578000,0,0,8
2=C32,562166,0,0,8
3=C30,545834,0,0,8
4=C28,530000,0,0,8
5=C37,602000,0,0,8
6=C33,570166,0,0,8

Frequency=578166kHz  Strength=-12000  Quality=100%
Frequency=562000kHz  Strength=-17000  Quality=100%
Frequency=545834kHz  Strength=-19000  Quality=100%
Frequency=530166kHz  Strength=-15000  Quality=100%
Frequency=602000kHz  Strength=-25000  Quality=100%
Frequency=570166kHz  Strength=-15000  Quality=100%
(I re-ordered the second set to be in the same sequence as the first)

Note 3 of the frequencies are the same (#3, 5, 6), 2 are offset by 166kHz one way (#1 & 4), and 1 is offset by 166kHz the other way (#2).

I'm not sure what to make of that, but it certainly seems strange, particularly the one that's offset in the opposite direction. If it's C32 that you can't scan now, I'd try setting it's frequency to 562000 in the 0113.ini file and rescanning.

edit: on further review of the ScanChannelsBDA log I think I'm probably barking up the wrong tree. that's all I see though.

@johnson: thanks for looking at the log, the mux I can't tune to with live TV is C34.

Just to summarise:
  • With a (known working on previous XP install) gbpvr database and config.xml I can watch live TV on all channels apart from the BBC ones on C34 (mux 1).
  • If I create a new capture source and perform a fresh scan it picks up all channels apart ones above.
  • If I set <BDAAutoScan166KHzOffset> to true in config.xml and scan with a fresh capture source the BBC channels are found but I still can't watch them in live TV or record them.

Just for giggles maybe set C34 to 578166 in the 0113.ini and rescan?

Thanks johnson! That did the trick.

All that's left to do is get a scancache file with a full set of channels (some UK Freeview channels are part-time) and then setup 2 capture devices...
