On my setup, Nero X 3.0 seems to get to about 3.9 Gig (10^9) and pretty much thrashes the page file. Up to then it zooms along when first scanning a file (.mpg). When it hits about 3.9 (somewhere around there), the VM shoots to around 1.3 GB and nothing goes anywhere except my disk which goes round and round, but Nero never gets anywhere. CPU is low at this point, maybe a percent or two, but available memory is extremely low, maybe 512 KB (yes, half a meg) so everything crawls. I have to kill Nero to get things back to normal.
There's no problem with smaller files. 1 GB per would be good, or configurable. The other movie maker/burner I have installed is WinDVD Creator 2 (maybe Oct2004 version, the Plextor M402U version), but that always wants to render/encode (very slow) even with so-called SmartRender checked.
I'm using a Sapphire Theatrix, which does its job much better than the Plextor. Now, if I can only get some decent quick-cut/edit software. Nero will do if only I can limit the size of files created.
I suppose I could record 0800 to 0900 and then 0900 to 1000.
Has any one else seen this problem, or know of a way around it?
