ahci is a waste of time also the speed increase is next to nothing for writing to whats the point
why do you have your tv buffer on the same physical drive as your operating system ?

oh and if you want backup/imaging software, try Image for Windows by Terabyte..
simple and fully featured, it's tiny and can do things many others cannot..
[it can backup a drive to itself! lol tho not recommended]
and it's cheap..Smile
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-windows.htm
even has a dos ver that fits on floppy and can burn dvds from it in dos...Wink
[and linux ver too, and i've used it to backup Macs also]

there are freebie alternatives..none near as nice tho..
and no, i don't get anything from it...it just works perfectly without bloat so i like it..

i have my tvbuffer on same drv as windows cuz i didn't have another drive to put it on and it wasn't a speed issue...windows drv shouldn't be going nuts while you're using pvr..
everything's loaded and not much else has to be accessed..since gbpvr is on another partition..but true it is better to have it on it's own drive if possible...

I don't think that anyone can help me now, but I have to try.

I went out today and spent a few hundred dollars on parts I don't think I can ever use. One of them was a new power supply, because with all this stuffing around I managed to break the "hard-switch" on the old one. I also installed a couple of fans before I tried to start up again.

BIOS screen. Hang. Wait, press delete, wait...still hung. Power down and up. Nothing; no image, no beep. Again. Still nothing. Clear the CMOS with the battery out. Try again. Still nothing.

I think that's it, isn't it?

You see, Stu? That's what we get for rushing things. To think that yesterday I was bragging about my perfect codecs and beautiful video.

I am very depressed.

I'm triple-checking, but the fact that I saw the BIOS screen briefly doesn't bode well to me. I will disconnect each device in turn to see if that makes a difference, too.

Thanks, Stu; you were right. I didn't have one of the drive cables plugged in. The funny thing about that, though, is that I have purposely left it unplugged many times before, to avoid corrupting its data, too.

Sorry about before; I wasn't blaming you. I shouldn't try to be funny when I have a dissembled system around me.

pcs are pretty robust ive done some pretty dodgy stuff and nothing really has blown up completely

OK, my system wasn't hung due to an unplugged drive at all; it was because I had moved the SATA cable for my DVD drive to the other channel. The reason I did this was based on advice from pBS that having it on that channel was probably causing BSOD whenever I try to bood with AHCI set.

This means that I can't see a way to commence setting upt AHCI on this install. I can't really delay the install much longer, as I am keen to commence my months of reconfiguring. Sad I think I may just have to go with Stu on this one; no AHCI for us.
