Computer not shutting down when idle

I've had GBPVR on 3 motherboards now, the first didn't, The second did perfectly and the third - a new one won't.
I've been looking at forums and this seems to be a common problem - the idle detection in windows is unreliable.
Does anyone know of how to get this going well?
(Feature request) If GBPVR had an option to go to sleep after a period of inactivity it could work well as it would know whether its idle.

Usually people have problems with the PC not waking! I don't think Windows idle detection is unreliable, it's just that pretty much any device or driver can stop it working by asking the PC to stay awake - Wireless keyboard/mice, USB devices, too many possibilities.
In windows 7 you can use the command line powercfg/requests and it will list what has been keeping it awake, but don't think previous versions have anything similar?
Maybe your network card does not have a check on 'allow Windows to put this device to sleep'?

Yes, all my systems running gbpvr as servers or clients (with the recording service still left running) go to sleep without a problem. Motherboards are all different as well.
I do stick to hibernate rather than standby though.

It helped me in the past. They were talking about a newer version identifying the process holding up the system. Not sure if that's implemented yet.

I should have mentioned that my system detects idle and goes into standby when GBPVR is not running, but when GBPVR is running it wont even if gbpvr is idle (with or without screensaver).

This seems to be a nasty problem as in XP there isn't any easy way to find out what the 'idle' threshold is, what to set it to, or how to set it. (If I'm wrong here please let me know)

This seems to be a nasty problem as in XP there isn't any easy way to find out what the 'idle' threshold is, what to set it to, or how to set it. (If I'm wrong here please let me know)

This is the problem that i found as well and for a while started stopping the pvrx2 interface.

I'm having the same problem.

I note that although idle, the gbpvr recording service is more-or-less continuously clocking up bytes under the "i/o other" column. Task manager says it is doing something every 5 seconds or so. restarting it didn't fix the problem. Nothing noted in the recording service log.

On the same topic; when gbpvr wakes to do a recording (after asking Windows to be awake at a certain time), does gbpvr ask windows to go back to sleep again, or does it just rely on the system power management to shut down ?

It relies on Windows to go back to sleep.
No way should an application be able to tell a server to go to sleep as who knows what else may be running? (unless a specific application like hibernate.exe)
