Client Database - You need permission to perform this action

Hi,

I've encountered a problem whereby since by upgrade to Windows 7, my client can no longer modify the database on the Windows 7 GBPVR server. When I browse to the network share (//gbpvr/gbpvr/) and try and write a file, Windows pops up the error "You need permission to perform this action".

I've checked on the server, and the folder is shared with Full Control and Write permissions.

I'm a little stumped. I look forward to finding out what blindingly obvious step I've missed out!

this isn't the real answer but a workaround..
if you log into client w/same name and password as server it should work fine..

Yup, it is also Win7. Does that mean that I can't use the client PC on my normal Windows credientials?? Think I might just use the EWA for setting recordings. :confused:

usually as long as an identical account is on both machines, windows will recognize this and trust...may not have to be currently logged in as that user tho..
[but log into at least once and mak sure network is accessible..]

Hi pBS,

Sorry, only just got a chance to look at this. I've tried doing as you suggest and can't seem to get it working. I set up a user account on my client computer (Windows 7 also) with same username and password as the server (Windows 7) and although I can see the network shares from the new account I still can't set any recordings.

I'm I missing something??

Hi,

Yep, it is an administrator account. It's the same scenario, I can look up the database in PVRX2 on the client's 'GBPVR' account but still can't set shows to record. It would almost seem like the share is read only.

On either account on the client (my normal one or the 'GBPVR' one) Windows still says "You need permission to perform this action" if I try to write something to the server \gbpvr\ share.

I'm sure it's something obvious but at the moment I'm stumped!

Fixed it!

What you need to do is:

1. Browse to your GBPVR share on the server in Windows Explorer.
2. Right-click, Properties, Security.
3. Select "Users" and then Edit permissions.
4. Select "Users" again and give them full control.
5. OK all the windows.

Your client should now be able to set and manage recordings.
