Hey all,

Noob here. I'm wondering if my video card is entirely too lame to watch/capture HD cable. Olympics are coming up and I wanna nab 'em. Here's the vid hardware:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102757

http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduct...-_-Product

Is this video card too sad? Cause When I see the video in GBPVR it's a slideshow.

Advice is appreciated...flaming isn't. Thanks.

That gear should be ok. What CPU is in your machine? Have you tried different video decoders or video renderers?

Hmmm...Different decoders? The only decoders I know of are what come with the KMPlayer v2.9.4.1435. What decoder(s) do you suggest I download? I've always been reticent to deal with packages of codecs and so on because of the strong possibility of worms, etc.

By the way, the processor in this particular machine is:

AMD Athlon X2 4050e Brisbane 2.1GHz

Hope that helps. Thanks for the advice.

I have no idea what decoders KMPlayer comes with. What MPEG2 video decoder do you have selected in the playback tab of the config app, and what other MPEG2 video decoders are listed as options?

Thanks for the speedy reply...

Under the aforementioned tab I have these options:

System Default (this is selected)
MainConcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder
WS MPEG-2 Decoder

What do you think about that?

I'd start by trying those two decoders you have available. I've never heard of the "WS MPEG-2 Decoder", but the mainconcept one should be decent.

If the mainconcept decoder doesnt help, zip and attach the pvrx2.exe.log and pvrx2.exe-native.log and I'll see if anything stands out.

i'd try the ati avivo decoder...did you load all the drivers? it should have come with it..

what os? if xp, go to ati site and download catalyst 8.11 for that card, and make sure to dl the ati avivo converter as well at bottom to get the decoders..
[be sure to remove any current ati drv/software from control panel]
then select "ATI MPEG Video Decoder" in config..

if vista or win7, get the latest drivers from ati, including the avivo decoders..

as an alternative, use http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ [beta6 button on right side]
must set output to NV12 colorspace only, check interlacing boxes below that, and select libmpeg2 for mpeg2 codec on codec page and you're set..Smile

Thanks for the help. Did you mean 8.11 or 10.1? Current Catalyst is 10.1...should I get the most current, or the 8.11? Thanks!

Okay, I believe you meant exactly what you said...^_^.

I'm installing right now, and we'll see how it goes. But why the 2-year old drivers?

OK, attached are my logs. I put all of them in just to be safe. After installing the Avivo, things seemed okay, but only for a few minutes, and then the slideshow began again...I get around 8 or so frames a second, and the sound generally stops, too.

Hopefully my logs will reveal the problem. I'm such a beginner at this...a little embarrassing...

Thanks for the help, folks. Olympics are coming up fast, and I wanna capture them.
