I have been trying to produce an alternative Music Library screen & I have come up with something that is getting near to what I want but I have run into a few problems, just so you can get an idea of what I am trying to do I have included a screen shot:

"CoverArt @previewImage" & "FilmstripSelectedPreview @previewImage" (for me?) return different results (views) for some AlbumArt(albumname.jpg) "CoverArt" doesn't display anything whereas "FilmstripSelectedPreview" displays the picture is this normal?

Because of this problem I decided to use both of them with "FilmstripSelectedPreview" rendering first & "CoverArt" rendering second so it just renders over the top of the first image if there is one & this is working very well.

Unfortunately this has forced me to have to use FilmStrip view for the skin & there doesn't seem to be key that allows you to move across a page at a time with it (a big problem when you have a music library as big as mine), so my request is either to allow PageUp & PageDown (or some buttons/keys) to scroll a page at a time and/or different views to be able to use @previewImage like ListSelectedPreview, DetailSelectedPreview, IconSelectedPreview, and/or have "CoverArt @previewImage" display all the images it does now as well as the images "FilmstripSelectedPreview @previewImage" displays.

The next problem may be a bug in "CoverArt @previewImage" as when I go into my Christmas directory which has a heap of songs with embedded art by different artists in it, it only displays the albumart for the first song I stop on & when I move on to any other song/artist it still shows the old albumart for the first song.

I am also seeing a fairly big (quite noticeable) delay with "CoverArt @previewImage" changing the description when I change songs & it is almost "painfully slow" on the NMT, I assume this isn't normal?

This is starting to turn into a wishlist message....sorry about that....but it would be nice to be able to use the changing library background images like the slick skin does but without having to have the horizontal MainMenu to get it to work.

NMT incremental update could be painful if you have images on images. Since you are running SD res, I'd expect you'd be better off not using incremental updates.

I like what you are trying to do there.

I could not see suggesting turning off incremental updates as being a viable option if I was to release the skin to other users! So just as a trial I disabled it displaying the background picture & "FilmstripSelectedPreview @previewImage" & the delay was still there unchanged

This got me thinking so I selected "Slick" as my NMT skin & discovered the delay was exactly the same with it, on the PC you can see a small delay when you change songs with it displaying the song details, on the NMT it takes a full three seconds to change the "InfoSummary" details.

Thanks Mr _do Smile I feel some of my suggestions would give us a bit more skinning flexibility in this area, but with no response from sub it looks like one of those things that was just a waste of my time unfortunately Sad

I have had a play using the other menu options but actually Filmstrip view gives the most balanced (in my opinion best looking) view, if only you could only page sideways.

Right you can send updates quickly if the plugin is designed to be NMT aware, but if you are simply relying on meta data display performance is awful.
