Thats correct. The Microsoft audio decoder from Win7 is not usable for AC3 in third party applications. The Microsoft web sites indicates this is due to license restrictions.

It looks like ITV HD is becoming a "proper" channel shortly, no more messing around to be able to receive it.

But surely using gbpvr must be one of the easiest ways of receiving it. You tune it in, and there it is as a channel (complete with EPG) just like anything else.

However, reading posts in other forums and it does seem like a right hassle to get it working, both in other media software apps and on proper STBs.

Only if you copy someone else's cache entry AFAIR - scanning does not produce an obvious (or even obscure) ITV HD entry.
