Hi sub,

I discovered that the slick skin can use fan art when movies are bunched in one directory which is how I always preferred my movie files since i found it easiest to use shuffle and read metadata with no directories. Simply click next file and have the info there instead of need to click back and fourth in directories.. click click clik.

since slick has no shuffle option I have been trying in vain to get any other skin to display the fan art but I am not a programmer just a tinker'er so and I need some help or insight to know if I am at a stumbling block or if it is not possible with any skins at the moment.

I am trying to enable the feature to work with my modified community skin 4 video library skin so that when highlighting a movie the fan art displays like it did with the slick skin.

I added this to the placements but not surprised it didn't do a thing.

<Placements>
<Placement name="FanArt" loc="0,0" size="100,100"/>
</Placements>

Is there more that needs to be done to get this to work and if so where can I download the info to enable a skin to understand it?

I should note that when I go into settings and change the skin from slick to cs4 that pvrx2 reboots and each fanart will display in the video library properly until I close pvrx2 at which time the fanart will stop functioning until I change to slick skin.

File names for those interested

Angels & Demons(2009)(Violence)(2.5 stars)_20100404_05000720.ts

Angels & Demons(2009)(Violence)(2.5 stars)_20100404_05000720-fanart.jpg

I also noticed that folder.xml can be used to display the metadata of a folder so I could try to do something with that to display metadata of a movie without actually needing to enter a directory if I went back to that file format.

I should also figure into putting a light mask under the description text to make it easier to read

Any ideas what I should be doing or looking for
Cheers

I believe that fanart only works with a "slick" main menu style. I had a go a making a CS version of the slick main menu, but never really got a good feel for publishing it. Here is what I had come up with, without any real graphical improvement, just tweaking the xml files. You would have to choose main menu buttons to work with what you would like.

As far as fanart goes, it is totally controlled by gbpvr and not skinnable.

Thanks so much for the help.

I emptied the "cs4/menu" directory and placed all your files there and I now see the fan art in CS4 in the Video Library every time.

I went one step further and put the slick "skin.xml" over yours in the video folder and put the background.jpg from the slick folder into yours and it's working. What I really like is now I can view things in the recordings folder where before when I used just the slick skin then the text was hard to read when I light background was used and now you have masked icons and things which make it great! that helped me huge. Thanks man!

I guess I have to abandon anything further until I see the new pvrx2 release and what it has to offer.

Since I can't figure out how to make pull metadata and backgrounds from a folder display then I guess I will have to cut all the movie files out of all the folders and put the all into one big folder to take advantage of the cool fanart available.

I have another question for ya.

Can you help me with putting a slight grey mask where the info description goes in the library? I included a picture where the mask looks like it would work.

I have also included the cs4 video library film strip view with metadata info skin that I am using for.

Please feel free to add it to cs4 or any skin if it works for you. It makes finding info in the movie better I find.
'
I stripped out the other view options since I don't know how to add them without messing views up so go for it.

Cheers and thanks for all the info

Just a quick idea would be something like this. Sizes and locations were pure guesses as I am at work and don't have anything installed here to check anything out.

Code:
        <!-- info summary -->
            <CompositeImage name="InfoSummary" size="100,70">
            <DrawText text="@title" loc="-10,07" size="98,0" textStyle="ListNormal" align="Right" />
[color=Red]            <DrawImage filename="..\_CoreImages\TextBackground.png" loc="66,14" size="30,85"/>[/color]
              <DrawText text="@duration" loc="-10,15" size="97,0" textStyle="IconSelected" align="Right" />
            <DrawText text="@description" loc="67,20" size="30,100" textStyle="IconNormal" align="Left" />
          </CompositeImage>

Fatman_do, from the top of your head that is simply amazing as it works like a charm!!

It fits exactly in place like the red outline.

I am working most of the day so can't make any screen shots at the moment but it works really really well.

I noticed with fan art that if a movie has none it defaults to some picture so when I can get time to figure if I can place the cs4 background as default I think we have a really cool movie browsing experience.

It's great to see the background change with each movie selection instantly. I love it!!

Thanks so much for your help!!

If you have multiple video files in one folder and want to display metadata for them, use [filename - extention].xml:

Angels & Demons(2009)(Violence)(2.5 stars)_20100404_05000720.ts
Angels & Demons(2009)(Violence)(2.5 stars)_20100404_05000720.xml

Thanks everyone!

I have Auto fanart backgrounds and metadata working perfectly in the Video library and Community Skin 4.

I have posted some more screen shots of PVRX2.

I should point out that you should create a "folder.jpg" file in the root of each movie directory of a default wallpaper or skin picture so that when you click a file that has no fanart then PVRX2 will always display that "fanart.jpg".

Would you mind sending me a metadata .xml file, folder.jpg, and fanart image of the same movie so I can mock up things on my end?

I'll make any fine tuning adjustments and include your version.
