I would like to see more concentric or uniform branding on some of the more essential plug-ins.

For example, Guide2J is a nice upgrade(channel logos AND station numbers, recording status, etc.), that should be assimilated into the core program.

Barring that, tried and true plug-ins could be homogonized to mesh with gbpvr. Mostly an aesthetic thing, names like guide2j and xrecord seem removed or not to match in the gbpvr dashboard to me.

Opinions, thoughts, and rants apply here Big Grin

In my eyes, a plugin that is developed by a third party should *not* have names that indicate otherwise. Should it be named so that GBPVR is part of the name, people would think it is supported by the developer of GBPVR. And also, a third party developer should have the right to name his/her plugin to whatever. In fact, or at least in theory, there is nothing that says that the plugin only comes in GBPVR flavor, it could just as well be developed for any other plugin-enabled pvr software, too.

I don't think anyone who is installing and using gbpvr would make that mistake, it's a hands on aproach really. I do see that in the interest of
cross-platform development, an author uses the same name for their plug-ins.

What about the ability to configure what is displayed in the menu? Is the text locked into a graphic or is it generated?

I would personally like to conform my menu listings for aesthetic/continuity reasons.

Only thing I want to see is a uniform integration method for plugins. Having to copy plugins into every single skin folder is cumbersome and, IMO, unnesessary. But that points to a larger issue, poor plugin/skin implementation. One look at the file structure of the GBPVR folder shows how much better the data can be organized. Plugins should reside in the same folder (the way skins are) and all skins should be smart enough to look in the plugin folder for the data they need to integrate them correctly.

Being the developer of guide2j - look for an update in a few weeks.

I don't like the name either.

Look in the gbpvr folder for a file called, "language.xml.ignore".
Rename it to language.xml and edit it. Anything displayed on the menu buttons, in any plugin/screen, you can change to say whatever you want.

I think the idea of plugins is great, but the implementation is a joke... I have only been able to get two working: Weather and My Pictures. Everything else either doesn't show up in the configuration app or locks up GB when I try to use it (probably because I missed one file or didn't manually configure something correctly). I haven't been able to get guide2j to work because I can't get findfast or whatever it's called to work.

I agree with dutchfudge that certain plugins should be bundled into the install of GB. guide2j looks great, but since i am obviously missing some file or something to get it to work, i can't use it.

If anything, bundle them into the GB install basically configured but NOT selected in the config app. Then put * next to them stating it's a 3rd party plugin and to seek the author for assistance. If I want to use it, I can check the box and finish the config of pointing it to certain folders and such. If this can't be done, the authors need to make installing this plugins easier.

What one could do, is configure gb with a bunch of plugins, and a skin, then zip the whole thing up.
All the user would have to do, is unzip the file over top of the current install, and it should put everything in the right place.
Stuff would still have to be configured though, location of movies/mp3's, weather location code, etc.

You have to download this file PriorityRecordings.zip and drop it in "gbpvr" folder. Also, don't change the default install folder, as most plugins assume this, less headaches for you.

yeah, I agree that it is not plug and play. Lot's of headaches but I enjoy it Big Grin

Nope, still doesn't work. So probably the reason most of them don't work is because I installed GBPVR to D:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr
