Hi, I am hoping someone can help me figure out what to do to fix this difficulty I am having.

I have Windows 7 ultimate with a wintv pvr500 with the usb remote transceiver and I cannot get it to work with the IR in Windows 7.

On the same computer second hard drive is windows XP same setup and everything works.

In Windows 7 the remote works fine just no IR sends. The driver says eHome Infrared Receiver. Should it not be the transceiver? I can't figure uot where to get the ehome transceiver driver for windows 7.

I installed an MCE replacement type driver and the IR changes channels on the box but the remote does not work. Talk about a bummer. I did the testing months ago and gave up trying to figure it out but I am wondering if anyone has an MCE usb unit working in Windows 7 that won't mind using a driver extractor program to extract the ehome driver and send it to us?

Is anyone good with drivers and could compare the driver the remote works and the driver that the IR works and figure out the problem? I have read posts on the net of a few people that can't get it to work in Windows 7 so I am wondering if we are left to buy new stuff per M$ business model on new software?

Thanks for any help

it sounds like it's working..but you don't have to use replacement driver...just remove the device in device manager and it shouold re-install MS driver for it..
arrow keys should work in windows programs when ms driver is installed ok...
then check on wiki for 'ir server suite' and install that..it blasts wonderfully well, i switched from HIP to it cuz it just works and isn't too hard to setup like others..

in win7 the driver will only talk to a service...no programs...so HIP and built-in blasting won't work in win7/vista with ms driver......alt driver is much less reliable in vista/7..

if you want you can use a different remote with it...just 'learn' [remap] the keys of the remote you wish to use...Smile
there's a template on the wiki for instant setup, and i also have one that lets you control pvrx2 without focus too..let me know if you need it..

there was no luck. I installed ir suite but the option to learn remote codes was grayed out meaning there was no transceiver found.

I installed the drivers that let the IR receiver work but not the remote but IR suite's translator reports as crashed in windows 7...

bangs head against a wall...

I am going to hunt down a ton of MCE Infrared Receiver drivers and see if I get any progress.

Any ideas?

the MCE replacement driver I found for Vista is the driver that allows me to change channels with the usb blaster but the remote does not work and the default ehome receiver driver in windows 7 let's the remote work but not the blaster. I am stumped on this one. Do you think there is any way to combine the 2 driver parts?

Any suggestions?

SuCCESS!

I discovered earlier there were 2 places in device manager to look one is the usb serial controllers and the other is the human interfaces devices.

I went mad and started updating and rolling back between the two using the default ehome and the replacement driver and managed to pull one over it's eyes as I some how have remote keys working and channel changing in HIP to pay tv box working fine.

Now I am saving the drivers as they are into drivermax so that when I ever re-install windows 7 then I don't have to stumble on what just happened and simply select the drivers from the program and inject them into windows 7 lol.

anyway thanks for your help. now onto other difficulties. channel changing does not work in both GBPVR or NPVR using the usual methods "login to desktop" "{channel}" added in settings "latest hip" so I am going to get the ir server you mentioned a go since hip talked to it I suspect ir server will do the same.

IR server installs fine as administrator but transxxx disappears when clicking on it...

hmm... I can select "watch tv" in GBPVR and hip will change the channels on the box now but select record and no change and no change at all in npvr...

I have checked the service for "interact with desktop"

any ideas?

Think I am doomed now

it sounds like you just have one of the weird remotes and a standard mce dongle...

but also sounds like you have some serious win7 problems...translator shouldn't crash when opening...

did you select and start the mce plugin in irss Service config? must check both sending and receiving boxes for both to work...don't select any other plugins in service..
and try turning off UAC and firewall and see if that helps...
is it set to autostart translator?
shouldn't need any changes to irss service logon...[local service w/interact]
irss was designed to use ms driver so don't use alternate driver with it..
in pvrx2 and npvr config, only need " {channel}" as parameter for .exe channel changer... [irblast-nowindow.exe]

the usb serial port one is the only one that needs a driver...the other one is a child of it...[automatic]

thanks for your help pBS. based from your guidance I uninstalled the receiver and transceiver in device manager and rebooted and made sure I had the default windows ehome driver installed. I checked device manager and noticed an unknown device which I installed the ms transceiver driver. So I have both ehome receiver and transceiver drivers installed from M$. I tried hip but no luck so I installed an earlier version of ir suite from a thread on here that a guy said works with windows 7 IR Server Suite - Test Build 1.4.2.2975 and he couldn't get others too work and I was able to copy the remote and I now have channel changing in both GBPVR and NPVR under Windows 7. thanks so much for your help Smile

to update on what happened next was pretty daunting and a very hard experience. I use an HDPVR and a PVR500 and I use the IR from the PVR500 to control the HDPVR and that works perfect in Windows 7 now. I decided to get the pvr500 into NPVR and after reading tons and tons of posts I found out I needed the softpvr files installed to make it show up in NPVR. I download the WinTV CD from Hauppauge website which took forever and it would not install even with my hauppauge driver cd since I am sure it's a fake oem from china lol... anyway I learnt about extractors and pulled the needed files out of the wintv instalations but they would not register in windows 7 giving some error so I was forced to find an old hauppauge cd on the net and had to download that which took forever. once I got all of that downloaded I had to unzip it and burn it onnto a cd. well I had no cd software and thought hey I will just get nero and be up and running in no time. well I picked nero burning room for download and I think I grabbed the multimedia suite by mistake and that was almost 300mb. man and that took 30 minutes to install on my core duo lmao.

I then made it write an iso to hard disc and download damaon tools to run off the hard drive and that dam program wants to install every spyware program under the sun.

after over 1 gig of downloading horror I finally got everything installed and set up in NPVR and started to do some recording and 12 minutes in i notice the HDPVR light go out. That was it... I called it a day. off to bed as i had to work in an hour.

next day.I just started to record some shows in the guide and the HDPVR has it's own guide and I set one 30 minute show and tried to get the show after but it says no tuner available.

Out of all of that the one thing that annoys me more than anything is that dam windows media 7 popping up whenever I hit some buttons on the remote.. lol

someone please guide me to stop it from taking over. I am tired of searching for now ...

Now that NPVR is installed I can play around and figure things out and enjoy the pvr.

cheers!!

go into 'program access and defaults' or something like that in win7 and disable media center...
or if you're using irss it has a checkbox to disable media center in mce device config..
the latest version on irss page works great in win7..fixes a few bugs too so i'd use that one..Test Build 1.4.2.3664
