I was thinking the ff/rew buttons used left/right which was why I didn't use them. I see now that they use CTRL + F/R so yeah, I can do that. I will swap it though so that the skip buttons jumps to the next starting letter and the regular ff/rew jumps one at a time which would make more sense (as you mentioned).

I won't be able to provide a patch for the apostrophe issue tonight due to the state of my current code. I'll try to get it wrapped up tomorrow night but I'm pretty swamped tomorrow.

Hey, no worries. Just thoroughly testing my new favorite toy. We've already gotten quite a bit of use out of it.

whurlston Wrote:After thinking about this some more, I think I have an idea. What if I made it respond to the phone key entries? The existing phone key entries would still work to navigate the list but if you pressed the "*" key it would navigate the Genres instead.

5-5-5 would navigate to the first title starting with "K"
*-5-5-5 would navigate to the first Genre starting with "K"

Will this bring up a list, or just jump to the appropriate genre? Somehow I'm still stuck on the desire to have the genre's displayed in a list where I can see 10-15 items, and be able to scroll through them to make my pick. (Of course the keypad jumps should still work in this list.) From a useability factor this would be optimum and increases the WAF as well.

Also, on the use of the skip ff/rw and ff/rw buttons, I would think it would be more intuitive to mimic sub's buttons on the top menu and establish other buttons to use in the "Covers" mode. Not sure I'm representative, but I use the list mode almost exclusively because it is more informative and visually easier to select or scroll through movie lists. Covers mode would be less often used, which I think is more likely the case for most people.

I can add an "All Genres" list that would display the genres as folders that you can navigate.

From dhgb256's thread:
whurlston Wrote:My timer code works. It's all the other features you guys requested that are holding it up. Wink But that's a discussion for another thread.

My next build will also include the ability to launch dhgb256's external app. I don't plan on implementing any queue management into the plugin and his works very well.

Actually the only feature I'm really holding my breath for here is the ability to deselect genres to make it easier to use on a daily basis... all the more advanced features and functions discussed would be (significant) icing on the cake.

As to queue related functionality, the only thing I'd really like to see in your plugin is the ability to watch a video from the instant queue; I'm happy to do all queue management from my desktop PC.

Even having to wade through 500 genres, your plugin is getting daily use here. Thanks.

I was really joking. There are a few things contributing to the holdup:

  1. I learned about something I was missing in the NPVR API which made loading images much easier and eliminated a LOT of my code so I'm cleaning it up. (This is probably the biggest task that I'm tackling.)
  2. Adding the ability to deselect Genres and adding a Genre list that shows up as folders.
  3. Expanding the SMS text entry so that you can jump to a specific title and not just the first one that starts with a particular letter/number.
  4. Working out a bug where episode titles are listed in the wrong order.

I should have most of the day free tomorrow to work on it some more. I didn't have as much free time over the weekend as I had hoped.

Yea, it always seems to be the case here as well. Had to move my entertainment center to clear the way for new flooring this week and the media pc would not turn back on. I'm hoping its something simple but just didn't have time to look at it. My family is now without TV. We'll see how this goes.
