Hi Sub,
I'm having trouble with that, when I try to copy the file to my web server, I'm informed that *.ts has properties that can't be copied to the new location. I'm guessing those properties include the timing.info
Should I go ahead or not?

Are you copying from a NTFS filesystem to a FAT32?

Yes I have this issue with new recordings too.. on playing, the timer at top of screen is all ok, counting up. On an initial skip forward 60 secs, (not even sure if its going this far forward) the time counter goes to 00:00:00 and the skip function stops. Just keeps playing ..

Copy it to your web server, but put the timing.info into a separate text file. I can reattach it at my end.

Here is a 5 min clip (150MB) of nothing in particular, but it seems to exhibit the same timing issue, timing.info is included in the zip file

Cheers

See if this helps. It appeared to be skipping to the right spot, but sometimes reporting the current playback position incorrectly. ie, if I was at 10sec, and skipped 10 seconds, it might say it was at 30 seconds, but if I play the file in WMP or VLC, I could see the portion of the video that was reporting "30 seconds" was really at the 20 second mark.

That said, you'll sometimes get audio and have to wait for the video to appear because the video decoders will often not be able to display a frame of video until an i-frame is received, which can mean you might not get video (for example) until the 22 second mark.

sub, I just gave that patch a quick test on a recording that would literally skip backward when I tried to go forward (or in spots simply not skip at all), and now it skips just fine both ways and on both the big and little skips. The comskip auto-skip points seem just about right too. Only tested on that one recording so far, but the improvement is dramatic.

by the way, I've often wondered about skipping between i-frames... does it really do any good to do that? would it be hard to code your reader so it jumps the desired number of seconds and then to the nearest i-frame? I think most decoders would behave better that way. Skipping would also 'feel' smoother as there'd be no video freeze waiting for an i-frame to come up. It might even make auto-comskip points more accurate as presumably there will be an i-frame as a commercial break begins and another as the show resumes.
