I just downloaded and played with the current version of MC2XML (which I think is the same version I was already running to get SD data).

As a test I downloaded the Microsoft MC Legacy EPG for my area, and as far as I can tell its exactly the same data I get from Schedules Direct (MC2XML reports the MC data is actually coming from Zap2It!, and I think they get their data from Tribune Media Services just like Schedules Direct does). Sure, I only pay a paltry $20 a year for SD, but I thought I was at least getting better data for it.

edit/additional thought: though I should clarify that somewhere in the Microsoft EULA it says that you are only entitled to use their EPG data with Microsoft Media Center (others argue that you have paid for Windows so therefore you have paid for the right to use the EPG data regardless of what program you ultimately use it with). So paying for Schedules Direct is still the only strictly legal source of EPG data for the US (to my knowledge).

The probable fact that MC2XML illegally pulls data from two sources (Microsoft/Zap2It! and TitanTV) is probably why it is apparently being chased all over the internet.

Im still getting an error trying to do an initial configuration choosing Microsoft Legacy option. I have Windows Media Center under Windows 7 but Schedules direct prompts name and pswd and I'm not sure what that would be for me. My error is TCP 124363R 124356H.

I don't know what it all means except that I still haven't generated the file I need to start this thing. That's in MC2XML, not the original one I gave up on. My OS is 64 bit if that's an issue.

all you should need to do is specify your zip code and country (us, not usa) in the boxes provided, then choose your lineup from the next window.

Or, you can go to http://www.schedulesdirect.org and get yourself a free 7-day trial account (and you can pull down 14 days of data, so the 7 day trial is actually good for almost 3 weeks). That's the right way.

I know what you.re saying, and thanks again, but I'm getting an error every time I click te button, no next screen. Something is interfering with the file creation. Should I shut off all av and firewall?

oh, one thing I just thought of - I think every now and then someone has a zip code that isn't in the epg source's database, and that will produce an error. you can try another nearby zipcode if yours won't work.

tell me your zipcode and I'll test it here
also, what directory do you have your MC2XML.exe in?

On further consideration I think that probably is caused by your firewall blocking the outbound communication. You have to allow MC2XML.EXE to make an outbound connection.

Did a search on my error and someone else who had it mentioned his firewall.
Guys I just turned off Windows Firewall, then restarted Comodo Firewall because I had shut it down. I should never have had Windows running also. Comodo then prompted me twice to let it run. It did and boy do I feel stupid/relieved. Now I can point and shoot to the menu and then work on the auto update.

Thank you for all your help today and tonight. I'll take on the rest tomorrow.
