Hello, I dont have PVR or MVP as yet.
What I am after doing I am not so sure if the solution has already been posted.
I have a TV in one room and a PC in another.
It's all broadband wireless'd up(if thats such a word!) .
I have put the ADSL/Broadband router next to the TV now.
I have a shed load of videos etc on the pc in the other room and wanted to stream it to the tv. Also I was hoping to PVR from the satelite box also connected to the tv.
(At the moment I have a wireless video sender from the satelite box straight to my PC (playing & recording through showshifter))
With the video sender, GB-PVR & MVP is it possible to do all this & as importantly how?
I have spent over 12 months looking at a solution but as yet havnt found anything that does both streaming video and recording a tv signal back to a tv.
Thanks
Martin

Yep that seems possible, with the following comments:

You'll need to hardwire an IRBlaster between the PC and the satelite box. This will allow the PC to change channels on the satelite. It does this with an IR (Infra-red) transmitter over the top of the IR receiver in the satelite box itself. The IR Receiver is what your remote control sends to anyway, in other words the IR Blaster pretends to be just like a remote control handset. IR Blasters come in two main types: serial and USB. I have serial and the cable is approx 20 meters long and works without problem with my PACE 4000 cable TV box. Just make sure you get a blaster that works with your type of IR receiver.

My main concern would be over the MVP being wireless. If you wait a month or two, rumour has it that hauppauge are making a proper wireless version but as yet this is unknown and untested. Anyone got a wireless MVP.

If you want a PVR you'll need a TV card for your PC. This will let you record shows etc.

So in summary:
1. Get a TV card in the PC
2. Connect output of satelite box to input of TV card
3. IR Blaster from PC to satelite box to change channels
4. Network (probably wired) between PC and MVP
5. Connect MVP to TV

(makes perfect sense to me!)

I still think wireless PVR is just not prime-time yet, if you're keen on higher bitrates. I also don't think you get to see all the interference you may already get until you see it happen in video. On top of that, it only takes a change on environment (new neighbor, secret govt spy satilite, etc) to get interference you don't have now.

If you can all help it, wired--for high-bandwidth streaming media--is still the way to go.

Sounds kinda good,,, however...
At the moment I have a S-Vid Input in my PC of which the Video Receiver plugs straight into. I'm then using showshifter to display the tv signal from the s-video. I can also record from that no problem. Is this possible through GB-PVR?
The only wireless part from the PC to the TV is from the PC to the Router. I was then planning in plugging an ethernet cable from the MVP straight into the router which should hopefully minimise dataloss. At the moment I also have a RF Remote to control showshifter which works great. Again, I need to see if I can tweek this to work with GB-PVR. It also has a satelite button which I've programmed to work with the sat box so i may not need the IR blaster? - scrub that,, I need the IR blaster for the PC to automatically turn over dont I ! Any further comments welcome but sounds promissing though.

GB-PVR will only capture video using supported devices (see the main page), you'll need to check what your s-vid input is connected to.

Re. wireless, the data has to be sent from your PC to the MVP, so the fact that you are wiring the MVP into your router is immaterial, there is potential for data loss from the router to the PC. Having said that some people work quite happily with a wireless setup - you may be lucky!

Some comments right back at ya:
1. The MVP comes with a remote control, this is used via the MVP (next to your TV) to control the actions, menus etc of GBPVR.
2. We'd be interested to know how you get on with the wireless part - search the forum for other comments and experiences
3. What TV card (in the PC) do you have and is it compatible with GBPVR? If not then you're out of luck.

Not necessarily, you *might* be able to get it to work with the software recorder plugin, can't you?

Can I just clear up. I am NOT using a TV card in my PC.
The TV signal is obtained from a sat box transmitted to the PC via a Video Sender.
I have an Nvidia graphics card with SVideo in which the Video receiver feeds. It also has an s-vid out socket.
Ideally I could just send the signal back to the TV via another video sender/receiver combo but unfortunately ive ran out of 3GHZ bandwidth !
I hope this gives everybody a clearer picture.
Thanks again.
