imiline---
Do you need any assistance with this plugin? I'm still looking for a MovieWiz replacement before I leap to NPVR.

I'd like to start collecting samples of what the different media managers make available.
For example, Ember (http://embermm.com/) - which is broken just now on IMDB scraping - pulls back one poster, and one fanart file per movie. Media Center Master (http://www.mediacentermaster.com/) on the other hand, will pull back multiple fanart files per movie, and maybe posters too, but I haven't played with it long enough to be sure. In both cases, various naming schemes also exist for the files that get downloaded, and they can differ based on whether the movie files are all in one directory, or split into one-per-directory. I/we probably won't be able to support everything, but the more options and variations on formats we know about now, the easier development will be. The different naming schemes shouldn't be too much of a problem, so I'm not going to worry too much about that now. But I would like to know what actual meta-data is returned by each application, so it'd be helpful if people could post sample files. I've included a couple below from Ember (which is incomplete) and Media Center Master. For now I'm just concentrating on movies and not TV shows; they'll come later. I'm sure we'd all like the plugin to handle the scraping itself too, but one thing at a time for now...

scb147 Wrote:No problem If you can send me a PM with your email address, I'll try to get what I've got done so far sent over. As expected the baby has taken up pretty much all of my time, but I've managed to scratch together a basic framework to test a few ideas. Input from someone else would be nice though before I head off too far down the wrong path...

May I politely ask for the ability to use external players. Please, please, please!!!
Also, just wondering if this will be database based or will it be directory based? If it's going to be database based then it would be cool if things like genres can be displayed as icons rather than as a list. Thanks so much for taking this on...really looking forwad to it.

External players? It wasn't something I was considering (what do you want from them that sub's player doesn't give you?) but I'll see if it's possible.
It'll be directory-based to begin with. And very similar in operation to the normal Videos component. Please don't set your expectations too high; think of it like the existing Videos but with the ability to display fanart and more metadata. I'm sure it'll evolve, but it'll be lightweight at first. You'll need to explain a bit more about icon-based genres. I don't quite follow you there. Iain |
