Those two seem a bit too 'mythtv'

Can't be 'too hard'. As a failed campaign manager I think this needs to be sorted and can't stay in the basket Big Grin

So what's wrong with competing with myth?

Let's just call it NextPVR (or NPVR for short) and be done with it... that's what we are all calling it after all...

IMHO NPVR doesn't need to compete...

Grow the Roses of success! Personally I hate it (name NextPVR, nPVR etc (and it does put a farcical element into this whole poll as NPVR etc didn't win) ) but I would 100% agree, if that is the name then it is so called, then squirrels that make documenting it could squirrel and not BADGER!)

However when you say does not need to compete? Is there some clinky shoe thing going on? I believe that g3pvr (whatever) DOES need to compete) Unfortunately for better or worse that is now the way the world works.....

Oh addendum, can't edit poll posts. I still think this is not a PVR, this is soooo old hat (PVR), with NPVR and .ts and digital side surely this became a DVR????

I read the whole thread, and as I was reading the last page this name came to me:

SubBlue

And here is why I like it:
- The name does not have to tell what it is and what it does. Apple is not a fruit harvesting company, Opera has nothing to do with classic music and signing, HandBrake is far from being a stopping mechanism, etc. If the name is easy to pronounce, to spell, and to remember, it will stick.
- The name is quite short, which sub likes.
- Blue is the default color of the interface, and also the name of skin.
- I think it's a good idea to commemorate the creator in the product name. And having sub in the name can add another layer of meaning.
- In most cases sub means something below standard, worse than others. But in case of SubBlue, IMHO, it does not have a bad connotation. In fact, it sounds like infrared or ultraviolet. It's something below the blue, behind the blue skin, it's the software that does magical things, dressed up in the pleasant blue user interface. It's SubBlue!

Unfortunately, the domain subblue.com is taken Sad (by Tom Beddard's blog about mathematical and generative graphics). SubBlue.tv and several others are available. But if sub wants the domain name to be in .com, then SubBlu.com is available. Actually, SubBlu reminds me of Blu-Ray disc, which is not too far away from PVR and Media Center.
Also, 2 letters "B" together might be somewhat difficult to pronounce, but that did not stop now famous Deep Blue computer chess engine.

P.S. A general note about the name picking: We are looking for something short, easy to remember and pronounce (which "something-pvr" is not), and available in .com. In this case we are 10-15 years late to the game of domain registration. For example, bluetv.com, blue.tv, bluemc.com (as in Media Center, but there is a DJ/singer named Blue MC), bluehub.com, bluebox.com are all taken.

P.P.S. BluePVR.com is available. IMHO, it's not as good as SubBlue, but better than NextPVR or G3PVR. Also, BlueSet.com is available.

P.P.P.S. About Blue Moon – it's a Belgian-style ale beer, one of my favorites.
