McBainUK and myself may be currently testing a wordpress based homepage for NPVR. If anyone else is interested send a PM to have a look.

[Edit] Obviously would need a thumbs up from the boss, GB, Sub otherwise a no-go! [EndEdit]

Sub, what are your thoughts on new homepage / website for nPVR? Steeb and I have been investigating using Wordpress to tie the homepage, forums and wiki together. After only a few hours play I can see that it's more than capable of offering a great web presence for the nPVR project (something along the lines of: http://xbmc.org/).

It offers integrated donations page, screenshots page and links to the wiki and forums. There's also a nice way of having project announcements and 'latest forum posts' feed. The best thing is that it requires no html knowledge. It's even easier then editing the wiki.

I can PM you a link to the test site if you wish (it's hosted on steebs PC at the moment so not suitable for a public post).

It looks quite nice.

A while back Hairy had sent me a shell of a new web site I could use, but I've been having problems trying to update it the way I wanted. It might be easier to go with this. Can you PM me a link so I can see it in action?

Hi Guys

Sorry to jump in on this late, but I'd take a look at joomla as well for the framework as it might be more suitable as wordpress has a slant towards blogging.

More than happy to donate some time/php/html skills into the mix along with helping out with the debugging

Hi elite,

when I suggested Wordpress it was for a variety of reasons, the most important being limited user input/knowledge of html etc. I think we have chosen the right one here but I may be wrong. Joomla is for the more advanced. Wordpress to me has moved beyond just blogging? Really is a true CMS? I'll PM you the site if you would like to have look?

Ultimately this is Sub's call and am sure you could sway a vote towards Joomla Big Grin

Having said that if I could sway your vote back to Wordpress Big Grin

I had a suspicion that Sub would not have liked Joomla!

I also have a suspicion that Sub, McBainUK, myself (and elves) would love to have your skills in this mix Big Grin Please PM me elite if you would like to have a play with this.

Yeah it does have a bit of learning curve from a design/backend point of view - I'm surprised you had such a negative experience with it as I've always had good feedback from clients and rarely can recommend anything else these days as it's so flexible - but at the end of the day your call of course!

My company site was created with Joomla with the help of someone much more knowledgeable than me. He set it up so I can make regular changes without muffing it up. And the price was great! When I need major changes, he can do it for me quickly and for next to nothing in costs. Compared to what I was paying years ago and how little I had control over it, it's worked out well.
I have friends who swear by both Joomla and WordPress sites. I just don't have the inclination to learn much about them.
FWIW, I like what Mcbain and Steeb have done.
