I don't know anything about making websites. Nothing at all. Seriously.

But, one of my customers used Website Baker and seems happy with it. http://www.websitebaker.org

It's meant to run on a standard LAMP platform. I spent some time trying to make it work on a WIMP platform, but there isn't much support for doing that and the issues were way over my head. WAMP might be more possible, but that's not exactly a common configuration anyway.

The reality is we dont really need a full content management system. The bulk of the content here is going to be on the forums, and the wiki. I dont envisige we'll ever start writing articles, and blogs, or other forms of regular updates to the main page. Its more likely to be 3 or 4 fairly static pages, with links to the forums and the wiki, and maybe a small update every three months to say 'version x.xx is release' and a list of changes.

If you take a new look at the Wordpress site steeb sent, you'll see a simple design attempting to follow these guidelines. Any comments appreciated.

I just took another look. Its looking great. The RSS feeds to the right look great too.

The preview images on screenshots page look a bit odd (cropped to taller than they are wide). I'd probably prefer to 16:9 shaped preview images. I like the effect when you click on them though.

Wiki and Forum links should open in the current browser window, not new window.

I dont think we need those screenshot images in the banner top right.

All in all, very nice. Good job.

Will investigate, I did notice they looked odd.

All in all if Sub is happy that makes us all happy!

I think something is only minorly playing up with the Gallery Plugin that is making the screenshots display weirdly as thumbnails but tweaks will sort this quickly, McBain probably has it sorted already Big Grin (Like the fact Sub likes the shadowbox on the images)

My only comment to throw a spanner in the works would be for me IMHO it just doesn't quite look sleek enough yet?

Is that just me? Where are the skinning gurus Big Grin Wink

Dear all,

can anyone supply links to software pages that best show off what I would call 'features' i.e. what this software 'does'. Any software, any application, nothing specific to HTPC's etc.

We're looking at different ways/alternatives to displaying NPVR in a sort of 'boiled down view'

could be a checklist, could be anything, any angle would be investigated.

Cheers

Steeb

Firefox, top 5 features followed by a drill down into categories.

XMBC , very technical list, right down to supported codecs and container files.

Winzip, text heavy with screenshots to illustrate.

I think the Firefox approach is a good one, with some thought in to the categories.
