3d tv

My cableco has started showing some 3D content which I can capture with the HD PVR. Is this the way that 3D normally looks on 2D TVs and would I still need a 3D TV and the $200 glasses to watch it or is this a different delivery mechanism. I've never been good staring at those 3D images in the comic section, they just look like colours to me.

That is a stereoscopic image. Yeah, you would need a stereoscopic player, a 3d TV and the glasses. I don't know if there is a decoder that can combine the images (or only use one) for viewing it in 2D format. The latest Cyberlink decoder might do it but I'm not sure.

You might be able to create an aspect ratio to eliminate one of the images.

Thanks, whurlston, I kind of figured I needed the whole kit. I could read a 640x720 side and zoom it but I'd just as soon watch the full bandwidth 2D version. 3D to me still seems to be hype, but to be fair I haven't gone to see any 3D movies in the theatre and I thought I could buy some cheap glasses to watch this.

I kinda think that 3D TV might be like VHS was in the BetaMax vs. VHS days. If the porn industry jumps on the 3D bandwagon then it might actually become popular.

Right now, even if you buy a 3D TV and 3D capable blu-ray player, there is very little 3D media to watch. The irony here is that once there are enough 3D movies to make going 3D worth the expense and effort, all the current generation 3D technology will probably be end of life.

I think 3d TV is too close in time to many folk just having paid out good money for HD TV. It isn't cheap technology at present.

Brits are steering clear of 3D TV, with only one per cent of the population owning such a set already and a further one per cent hoping to acquire one this coming Christmas.

And consumers in the rest of Europe aren't much keener on the technology, either.

It also doesn't help that of the few 3D Bluray discs released or on the horizon, almost all are exclusive to one hardware manufacurer or another. Why would anyone pay that kind of money to watch a total of about 3 "True3D" movies in the next year?
