I've looked into that Netgear Roku player a little more, and it appears it's strictly an internet streaming box. It doesn't play media files at all. Lame.

edit: and also, Netgear appears to charge $90 for a box that is somewhere between the $60 roku HD and $80 roku XD... lame again.

One of the things I didn't like about PlayOn is the fact that to it is a transcoding streamer requiring reasonable power for on the fly playblack. I think Roku's players only play local mp4 video so you end up doing a lot of transcoding to get playback.

Appears so... It depends on the end users needs is all I was pointing out. I was thinking I could record things for my Dad, transcode/transfer to his server. Its a lot of effort, but worth it.

I for one would love support for DLNA devices. I am big into netflix right now so I am in the middle of purchasing Sony SMP-N100's and Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ boxes.
EDIT: I have a playon account but since version 3 came out, the NMT platform will not work. If i can test this on my Sony Blu-Ray for you or Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ give me a shout out.
EDIT 2: in my excitement I failed to read the whole thread before posting. I see you dropped this endeavor. If you decide to work on some kind of front end for NPVR that works on DLNA devices, it would be much appreciated. (That's not to say you are unappreciated for your NMT front end. - You Rule.)

Play on is ok, no skipping, finnicky playback. Next PVR as a DLNA service would be the bomb! My Toshiba is DLNA capable and has a crude media center, but no skipping.
