I was searching for an upgraded version of the iMON sofware for my VFD display on my Antec Fusion case and stumbled upon a new release from Soundgraph, the authors of iMON SW/HW.

There is a new API available that hooks into the iMON manager in plugin mode and takes full control over it. Supports both VFD and LCD mode + all icons. Even equalizer-data can be set.

This API would be a perfect base for a new plugin for NPVR that could display all sorts of data on the VFD/LCD without the hassle of using LCDSmartie, generating external text strings etc. It would be perfectly integrated in the plugin code. If I was a bit more fluent on Windows programming I would start right away, unfortunaltely I am more on the Java side :o.

Anyway, here´s the links:
http://www.soundgraph.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7375
Note that the API requires a new version of iMON (which is available from the post above)

And from the API specs:
Quote:1. About iMON Display API
SoundGraph have supplied the various remote control solutions and display devices to Retail market and our ODM/OEM partners. And there have been lots of requests from our users and 3rd party developers to open API for iMON display devices.
For this reason we release iMON Display API now and will try to release the update of this API later after considering the request from users and 3rd party developers.
iMON Display API will help 3rd party developer to make their application to control iMON Display easily. It uses Display Plug-in mode feature of iMON, newly added in iMON 7.91.0929 Beta version. In order to make this API work properly, iMON 7.91.0929 Beta version or the later version should be installed and because this API must communicate with iMON, iMON should be always running. Currently it supports our VFD products and LCD products.

I bumped on the same page as you did.

I'm an embedded programmer, but still...
I've looked at the sourcecode of the sample project and it doesn't look lik a big deal.

Currently founding out how to make the call to NVPR...
Maybe you have some usefull info/notes you can share with me before i begin.

grtz,
Nick

Hi Nick,

Sorry for not answering before. I was on a vacation for a week with no internet.

No I haven't investigated this any further since I stumbled upon the fact that my device in my Antec case seems to be branded as ANTEC VFD in its internal firmware. The software refuses to install, even if it is identical hardware. I have a support issue with Antec about this, but has so far not gotten any response. So unless I can get the sofware to install the whole idea of a plugin is useless. For me at least...

About hooking into NVPR I have no news either. I am looking into building an Android App as an advanced remote/EPG viewer & scheduler/streaming device. But I haven't gotten far. There iare a few good sugggestions on using NEWA as an webservice API for most of this. There seems to be no native webservice from NPVR. I suggested to Sub about creating one, but no answer. Search for my thread on builing andriod app and webservice for more info.

Hi Nick, thanx for the update!

I had missed your plugin release totally. Glad to see thet the API came to good use.
Unfortunately it seems I cannot use the plugin natively with the iMon API
Quote:Dear All,

Regret to say, the installation file for iMON/iMEDIAN HD doesn’t support old version of Fusion VFD doesn’t have IR control. This is a specific model and you have to install VFD Controller. This product is quite different with other OEM/ODM products.

Regards,
Johnny Hur
And I've got one of those old VFD without remote... But as it seems your plugin supports the olde way with LCDSmartie support too. And that works for me, so I will investigate ASAP!

Haven't tried that method myself, but reading from a text file is supported for sure. Is that implemented yet?
I have a simple 2x16 chars VFD, no icons.
