Picking a new name is still in my too hard basket for now, so there is a good chance it'll be left as-is, just so I dont have to make a decision. Whatever I pick, I'm in a no win situation, with a significant number of users having posted how passionately they disliked the other option.

I was quite happy with NextPVR as the offical name, abbreviated to NPVR, with nextpvr.com as the domain name. I would have preferred npvr.com, but it was taken. The term "npvr" has been used before for related products in the same field, which is a concern to me.

I was also happy with g3pvr.com and G3PVR, as it paid homage to where the project started out, and also represented a 3rd generation of the product. I kind of went off g3pvr for a while there, but I'm not as off it as I was. It did have the advantage of being a unique name.

I did also take nowpvr.com, when I briefly considered NowPVR, also abbreviated to NPVR, since some people seemed passionately against 'Next' in the name. I'd thought 'Next' implied future, when it was already here 'now'. Had the advantage of still being 'NPVR', which would remove the need to rename any components (DLLs etc). Sick of the whole idea of picking a name though, so gave up thinking about it further.

I also liked the 'substation' name that was suggested by someone earlier in the thread, but being unable to get substation.com made it less attractive to me.

For the record, I have no interest in substituting "PVR" for "DVR", since these mean exactly the same to me, and neither implies anything better or sounds any cooler in my book. It'd been PVR since it's beginning, so substituting DVR seemed a bit pointless.

Maybe you could rotate the name on a monthly basis. Like the number plate on Bond's car

I owned a small cruiser style boat a while back. I launched it without officially naming it first. On her maiden voyage I got a call over the two-way radio with a name I wasnt crazy about (it was meant to be a joke ~ Doc Bangar... get it??). Changing its name after the maiden voyage is supposed to be bad luck so I left it as is and ordered her insignia with that name to display on her stern.

Why not just leave things as they are? PVRX2 is in the GBPVR folder, NPVR is in its own. The web site has a pretty good segregation of the two (good idea before it got out of hand). Is there a concern of overload on the website? PVRX2 existed on the legacy GBPVR website for a very long time...

I havent migrated yet, but as I understand they both can be installed on one machine with no conflict as long as no recordings conflict between the two. I see everyone is referring to it as NPVR anyway.

I support Sub if he decides to just leave everything as it is now.

Totalpvr ? google shows totaldvr in use but not totalpvr. in fact google totalpvr.com and the the first result is a thread on this forum!! It must be fate.!
