If you modified the Default skin in .33 and you didn't copy it to a unique folder you are out of luck. Rename Skin\Default to something else and run the setup again to get the new .36 skin.

I'm not sure what you did, but it sounds like you've made a mess of things. backup your npvr.db3 file and any scripts or anything else you put in the npvr data directory, then uninstall npvr and wipe out the NPVR data and program directories. then put your npvr.db3 file back in place, and install using the 1.5.36 installer then put the patches back in.

I did modify the .33 skin and did not change it's name from Default. Also, I noticed that after the .36 install, the background changed to blue circles from the .33 blue pointy ferns or whatever they are. Do you mean a new install over-writes a modified .33 Default skin to leave me with a screwed up .36 Default skin? If so, why am I out of luck if I have a backup of the Application Data\NPVR directory? Can I just copy my saved .33 Skin\Default back in to over-write the new .36 Skin\Default?

My first priority is to get nPVR working again. After that, I would like the skip to work by clicking on the timeline with my mouse. That was supposed to work with the 1.5.36 patch files from the patch zip file. I'm guessing your 2nd sentence should make everything work including the timeline and make the Main Menu bar appear. After that, my modified .33 Default skin that I backed up could be an option to choose as a different skin if I gave it a different name, and the timeline skip may, or may not work, yes? Sorry, but I get very uneasy when things happen that don't make any sense and then I have to do things that don't make sense to correct them..

I followed your instructions and now have a Main Menu instead of a blank white bar, the skip ahead using the mouse on the timeline now works too, but the TV Guide has the wrong size font or the layout is sized too small. On the left where the channel and TV station call-sign are shown, the call-sign is truncated, i.e., WMFE-DT shows up as WMFE-. I have not touched the Skins, however, for my initial installation 1.5.33, I did modify the Default Skin. If the npvr.db3 that I copied back in per your instructions is affected by fonts, then this could be the problem. How do I recover from this? Do you have a reference where I can look-up what's in the database? Is this a standard DOS dBase III database file?

During the installation (running NPVRSetup.exe), an error window popped up with message: "DataDirectory registry setting does not appear to be set correctly". That a new one. I used Windows Settings -> Add Remove programs to do the uninstall and then manually deleted files that remained because they were in use. Is there any concern about this error message?

After install, I found that Settings -> Decoders had changed and the ones I had selected initially were not selected so that Live TV and Recording -> Playback did not work. My only question is whether these setting are in npvr.db3 and should have been retained? Likewise, do I have to redo all of the channel settings or are they retained in npnr.db3?

rkircher, I feel you know too little about NPVR to try customiztion at this point. I would start from scratch. Unistall and remove the User Directory, the registry key HKLM\Software\NPVR reinstall, apply then the patches. This will get you running, to resan and add your EPG again.

no fonts are stored in the database. I suspect you simply didn't set the TV Shape parameter in Settings to match your TV. dBase III? there's a blast from the past... no, think 20 years later than that, it's an SQLite database.

that's not really an error, but I admit it does look like one. It's just telling you that you didn't already have a data directory setting, and then the next pop-up tells you where it set it to. I suppose one of these days sub will have to re-word that message box so we don't have to keep answering the same question.

no, most settings like that are in config.xml - I purposely did not tell you to keep that because whatever you did before to foul up your install could have fouled up the config.xml, and since you can easily reset your options it wasn't worth the chance

I too was getting that same error warning. After 10 uninstalls and reinstalls, applying the patch and still not being able to scan for channels, I gave up. I believe that the latest release has changed in some way that does not support Windows XP. I is unfortunate.....

I pretty sure that is not the case, because I tested it myself on XP prior to the release, and it installed and functioned fine for me.

If you post a thread about it in a couple of days (when I'm back home), then I'm happy to look into it for you. I'm sure it'll just be something minor stopping it working for you.

Do you have AF9015 chip based tuner?
