Hello

I am new to NPVR, and I love the interface, but I am having severe problems getting NPVR to show live tv stable. It keeps being unstable. And my recordings are either broken after 5 min(in tv listing it says it is OK, but it is not) or it is a unstable picture/sound.

I have tried NPVR on 2 machines and on both I have this problem. I have tried with different codecs, microsoft, pinacle, coreavc-pro to name some. But nothing gets it stable.
Then i run DVBviewer, MCE, or 4therecord i get stable pictures, so I am a little lost here and hope some one can guide me in the right direction.

Which information do you need to help me?

my hardware at the moment is a ion atom board, with 2 gb memory(+4gb readyboost)

Thanks in advance :-)

What capturecard are you using? Analog or digital? Brand? Model? And post the logs from a problem-recording or live-tv viewing.

Hi Reddwarf

I'm using a dvb-t usb card from sandberg, and a usb dvb-t card from Pinnacle solo 72e.
Logs are coming as soon as I am at the machine again.

Hello again

Here are the logs.

Last night it should have recorded 2 programs, the first one it failed, and it says failed inNPVR, the second looks like it has gone OK, but then you play it, movie, subtiles, and sound is totaly out of sunc, and now and the there are small pauses in the movieeeeee there it sort if hangs for a second.

Live tv playes but it is also with small pauses now and then.

When it comes to digital recordings (you're using DVB-T), the recording is just a dump of the broadcast bitstream, so the recording itself should be in sync, so this points to a playback issue - most likely related to the decoders you're using.

Of the decoders you're using, the following I've never seen the 'Pinnacle MPEG 2 Decoder' or 'Pinnacle Audio Codec' decoders listed in another users log, so the behaviour of these is unknown. I'd try other decoders instead of these. You're also using 'DivX AAC Decoder', which isnt well known. I've seen it in a couple of logs, but never used it myself. If you dont any particularly audio decoder, probably best to set them to 'disabled'.

I do note you also have DVB Subtitles turned on. Does it help if these are left off?

Live tv will be the same.

WOW you are fast :-)...
Well I have tried to disable the divx codecs, and have switched the other to microsoft, or coreavc. It is the same prob is a record which i recorded in anotlem. I now tried to play a video with no subtitles, still the sound is out of sync after 2-3 min. tried with different codecs same result every time.
I do think you are wright that this a playback issue, but how do I fix it.
Do you now which codecs I should try.

it also looks like nrecord craches from time to time, I get messages that it have created a dump file. Have you seen this before?

And thanks for the quick reply

What type of channel are you trying to watch? ie, what type of audio and video does it have?

I have seen crashes in here for a variety of reasons - crashing multidec plugins, crash in microsoft psisdecd.dll etc. Unfortunately your log doesnt show any obvious cause. It actually looks like the crash occurred when the process was already in the of shutting down.

Hmm well i have different file types so here we go:

dvr-ms: Actually playes ok, good picture, sound follows movie nice, also with subtitles.

MPEG-2 .TS file (recorded HD-channel): Picture looks good, but sound uses HE-AAC and I only have a divx codec for this, can you recommend a codec for this? Sound does not follow movie correct.

WTV: (recorded HD-channel) super pictures and sound, have lost subtitles, but I have never seen WTV files being played outside MCE before, good work :-).

mp4: (no subtitles). picture and sound looks ok.

avi: (no subtitles) picture and sound ok.

Looks like it is a problem with the .ts files, and the HE-AAC codec. Any suggestion to a codec for this?

The most commonly used HE-AAC decoders are the Monogram AAC decoder (free from http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/2009/03/08...oder-0960/) and the ArcSoft Audio Decoder HD (which most Hauppauge device owners have from their Hauppauge WinTV software)

I'd try that Monogram decoder to see if it helps.

The Monogram decoder works fine for me.
