When I tried the Cyberlink decoder, I had enabled DXVA, with no luck. Now that I'm using the ArcSoft decoder for H.264, I have a choice of DXVA1, or DXVA2 (or both). Which should I use?

In theory DXVA2 should be the most efficient, but that depends if the rest of the system supports it well. Try watching your cpu load while watching live-tv with the different options, choose whatever gives you a combination of lowest cpuload and smootest video.

Not complety related to the original post, but I've tried to change some of the decoder properties. For some reason when trying to set DXVA2 on the arcsoft decoder, and also DXVA on the cyberlink decoder, the setting does not seem to apply. If I go back into it, it's not longer selected. I tried running NextPVR.exe as admin but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Some decoders store their settings, some dont. NPVR doesnt have any control over this. ie, it just askes the decoder to show its setting page. It's entirely up to decoder whether what setting values it pre-loads when it shows the screen, and what settings it saves when you click the ok button.

BTW, you'll typically only get any benefit out of DXVA2 if you're on Vista/Win7 and using the EVR renderer.

I am using win7/EVR. I understand it's not controlled by NPVR, I was just wondering if anyone knew how I might be able to make those settings permanent.

I have no experience with arcsoft decoders, but cyberlink decoders that I'm using seems to store the settings.
