Dear all,

I don't remember reading about this behaviour so if I've missed a thread or something somewhere please point me in the right direction Big Grin

I didn't realise that NextPVR prioritised recordings over LiveTV? Watching LiveTV, pending recording starts, stops LiveTV. Is that expected behaviour? Great not to have a failed recording but also not great for LiveTV just to stop.... Mrs Steeb would be most unhappy Wink

NextPVR 1.5.36 & all patches

cheers

Yes, that is the expected behavior. GBPVR did the same.

Well I never Big Grin. In all the years of using GB-PVR I never had it do that  Not once! I would just get failed recordings I am sure, or maybe I always had enough tuners available, admittedly I am running NextPVR through some rigorous testing. Now I am going to have to do the same test with GB-PVR Wink

It has always prioritized recordings over live tv.

Trust me, gbpvr did the same, I'v experienced that many times, and it's just as annoying every time Big Grin

I totally trust both of you Big Grin I am just amazed that in over 4 years of use with GB-PVR every day I never once had this issue come up, hence why I didn't know about it! It is true that I don't do loads of recording and most of the use is for LiveTV, obviously whatever combination I was doing just never brought the issue up with 3 tuners available, and I wasn't even recording .ts, all .mpg's!

I would expect all the consumer PVRs to do this too, although I guess some might try to be a little cleverer and continue to let you watch Live TV so long as it was the same channel as one of the active recordings. Maybe NPVR can already do this; I haven't checked. I know you can watch Live TV while recording, but I'm not sure what it does at the point a recording starts, eg punt you back to the menu or something...

NPVR does exactly that. It'll leave live tv running if on the same frequency and can do multi-record.

My Dish Network PVR would display a 5 minute count down timer in the upper left of the screen warning you that it was about to steal the tuner from you so that it could do a recording. I don't think you could stop it from doing so unless you canceled the recording which I believe you had to go into the Timers window or maybe the TV Guide might have allowed you. It's been awhile since I've done it. I agree that recordings should get priority over live tv.

We hardly ever watch live TV any more. Just have our favourite shows set to record and just flag up things when scanning the weekend papers. Then just view recordings at a time of our liking.
Most of what is on TV during evening viewing hours is garbage anyway (IMHO).
