OK, i am taking it back. Looks like ATI decoder was updated since last time i tryed it, now it output in NV12 colorspaces.

BTW, i checked CPU usage in graphstudio on my C2D CPU - tested sample posted by milne:
- ATI MPEG decoder 6-12%
- FFDshow 6-11%. It is exactly the same like ATI
- CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD10) (DxVA on) - 7-8%
- CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD10) (DxVA off) - 6-12% - this have "best" picture result becouse of smple wave deinterlacing which is working best on milne sample, but it will cause ugly bluring on standard interlaced source like on second picture:

That sample was recorded from live tv by me. If the artefact is part of the picture, why does it not show up with PDVD?

What decoders/settings were in use for your three sample images? I've certainly seen the bluring visible in the middle example, and would like to know how to reduce it.

As i wrote the bluring is result of simple wave deinterlacing done by PDVD decoder if you disable DxVA support.

About your sample - that is strange, i didnt saw such format before.

It's from Channel 5 in the UK (Five) which has always looked pretty terrible. If there's anything "wrong" with the video, then it went wrong before broadcast.

DXVA isn't disabled - or at least it isn't *meant* to be disabled. I think Reclock lists mpeg2(DXVA) too.

imilne:
This sample is corect interlaced FullHD MPEG-2 PAL - if you want to test deinterlacing, try this one.

Compare your result here.

Vector adaptive deinterlacing it the best you can get.

I've got that one, and it looks fine. VA is being used. Being mpeg2 though, it's not the best of tests for our HD broadcasts over here which are all mpeg4.

I certainly don't see blurring anything like as badly as that middle image makes out, so we may not be talking about the same thing here. It's possible I'm just looking for perfection in an image that just isn't there. My problem these days is it must be 6 or 7 years now since I've had anything other than an HTPC in the house, and I really have nothing to compare it against. Might be my eyes, might be the TV (a Pioneer Kuro). Could just be my imagination Big Grin

Just had a play with some decoders and yes, the PDVD10 one for mpeg2 seems to keep the nice scrolling I get with the MS decoder but doesn't exhibit the combing, so am pleased with how that's looking.

Regarding my sync issues, I noticed on the Irish DTT channels (H264 SD with mpeg audio) that live TV is in sync fine, even if I pause. So tried with ITV HD (which the particular one I have tuned in has mpeg audio) and that also seems OK. But BBC HD is not, when I pause/play it goes out of sync, so it seems to be an AC3 audio issue. I guess I'll have a hunt for updated audio drivers for the spdif out.

NPVR, Win 7 , ATI 4650 HDMI to Sony Z5500

I am using PDVD10 from SAF5 for video and Arcsoft Audio Decoder HD (from TMT2) which appears to be the only audio decoder that works perfectly with BBC HD content that switches between 2.0 and 5.1.

I have seen some resistance to FF with the HD content, I need to experiment to see if PDVD10 is responsible or if it is an NPVR problem.

And yes, I can;t get DXVA radio button to stick either but the picture still looks damn fine.
