There was a big earth quake here in NZ a couple of hours ago in Christchurch. I've been watching the live unedited footage currently airing on our bigger tv channels. Scary stuff. Flattened buildings, squashed cars, a lot of people covered in blood. There must be alot of people dead.

I watched some very lucky woman being rescued off the roof of a 6 - 8 story building that had pancaked down to the height of a 2 or 3 story building.

I have 2 very good friends in Christchurch who I've not been able to reach (of course). They had moderate damage in the last one. I hope and pray the worst is over. They've had little quakes almost non stop since the first one. I tried to watch streaming live news but either it's not allowed in the states or there's so many people using it, it's buffering.

This one looks bad. God knows how many have lost their lives this time. I really hope it's less than it seems right now. It's been a rough few months for our little country...

Sorry to hear about this. Just logged on via phone from holiday in Finland after reading about quake on BBC. Glad to hear you are ok sub but clearly others not so lucky.

I watched some of the coverage last night. Looks like Kiwis really have their act together. Civilians were using their SUV's as ambulances and people in shirts and ties were digging through rubble and carrying wounded. Sub, maybe you can recommend a decent charity operating in the area thats taking donations online?

Good to hear you are Ok Sub!

And my thoughts are with the citizens of Christchurch. I am lucky for sure to live in an area where quakes are non-existing...

Thankfully, my friends are safe and well. Just a few bruises but it appears their house is buggered. I'm not sure where they are staying at the moment but their son seems to have power on and off and are in touch with them so good news it is but definitely a hard near future for them all.

Sub, has the earthquake had any direct impact on your family or work?
