Hi,

I have a DVB-S tuner at the bottom of my device list, so it should be last choice. I find that if I start playing a channel that is available only on this tuner, and then change channel - say to BBC1, which is available on my DVB-T tuners, it is still played using the DVB-S tuner. If I now try to play a DVB-S only channel on a client, then I receive a 'no tuner available' message.

Is this the intended behaviour?

I understand that I'm getting faster channel changes this way than if NPVR changed tuner to use the DVB-T tuner, but it doesn't seem to be making the best use of resources.

Agreed, npvr should stay strict to the priority. If I end up on an analog decive by chance, I don't want to stay there if I change channel.

Yes, this is the intended behaviour. It is done this way to ensure the quickest possible channel change. GBPVR did the same thing.

Does it still choose top down for recordings and bottom up for live tv?

I agree with sub's reply to the original question that this should be the intended behaviour, but I would however, like to see a return to the top-down/bottom-up priority system too. Here's why:

I have a Hauppauge DVB-T tuner that can change channels in less than a second. But I also have a Pinnicle one that can take 4 or 5 seconds. That's too annoying for Live TV use, but it's perfectly adequate for background recording.

The current top-down only priority means if I put the Hauppauge first I can have fast channel changes, but if a recording is in progress before we start Live TV, then we have to put up with really slow changes instead.

The old system would have avoided this, allowing me to put the Hauppauge at the bottom for Live TV, and the Pinnicle at the top for recordings.

I disagree for the following reason: I have two dvb-c tuners, one dvt-t tuner with a subset of those channels on dvb-c plus a couple of extra channels and finally one analog tuner with most of the channels. Now the analog tuner is at the bottom of the priority list, as a last resort if no digital tuners is available. If it would function the old way, I would always get analog when watching live-tv or I would always get analog recordings. Neigter is desirable.

Fair points.

Maybe it needs a way to mark a single tuner as the preferred option for Live TV. So it could sit at the top of the list, but it doesn't get used for recordings unless there really are no other tuners available.

What about setting priority to tuners as two lists? One for live order and the other for record order? Then you could set them up to do what ever you wanted leaving the oldest/slowest as a last resort for either...
