You could always try one of the other skins for NextPVR down-loadable from the wiki as I am fairly sure they are more 4x3 friendly (the one I wrote certainly is as I only have 4x3 TV's) than the default skin which is really based around widescreen layout

Sorry, my question was not clear. I have a skin called Guide-4x3.xml that was given to me thru the forum and it works. My question is how do I keep it from getting over-written when I do an upgrade, in this case the upgrade was to vers. 2.0.3. I think my mistake was to rename the Guide-4x3.xml to Guide.xml when I put it into the Data directory ...\NPVR\Skin\Default\TV Guide. So my question - Is there a place or configuration for the Guide-4x3.xml skin where it will survive an upgrade and not get over-written so I don't have to remember how, or ask how to get NPVR working again relative to viewing the TV Guide after an upgrade? My memory isn't that great (sigh!)

On the same truncation problem, I have the same problem with the SearchLite plug-in that I installed after the upgrade to 2.0.3 EXCEPT I don't have a skin for it that does not truncate text on the SearchLite screen. Is there a 4x3 skin or other solution for the truncation problem in SearchLite? Don't know what I am doing wrong to require 4x3 skins since I am using a modern 16:9 LED TV for my TV Monitor when running NPVR Recorded playbacks et.al. look fine. It is just the TV Guide and SearchLite that is giving grief. Any ideas?

The upgrade always overwrites the skin files with master skin files. About all you can do is copy the 'Default' skin directory to something like 'MyModifiedSkin', and select that skin. That skin wont get overwritten with each release - of course you wont get any changes I make to the skin either, but you cant have it both ways.

I knew what you were asking I was just giving you an alternative so you didn't have to worry about it.

I think this may be more important to get to the bottom of than worrying about getting skin files overwritten in an update.

This may have been asked before in this tread as I haven't gone back to re-read it all & I can't remember if it was........what do you have your "TV Shape" & "UI Resolution" set to in Settings->General?

Does the upgrade over-write configuration files too?. Would it be possible to select a different TV Guide skin in Settings => General => Active Skin to preserve the Guide-4x3.xml Skin thru the upgrade? I think you are saying that a file like 'MyModifiedSkin' does not get over-written, so if the configuration continues to point to 'MyModifiedSkin' then the active skin would stay the same (?). I now know the file ...\DATA\NPVR\Skin\Default\TV Guide\Guide.xml gets overwritten with the version install, so I would get its latest version too (?).

Yes, but it takes special care to upgrade/merge your old settings.

Your active skin setting would be retained during upgrades. The 'Default' skin directory would be updated during the upgrade. Any other skin directories would be untouched (ie leaving your Guide-4x3.xml unmodified in some other skin).

Is there a way to change the order of the Main Menu items and/or change which Menu item defaults to the Center position?

I installed the Weather Plug-in and that displaced the "Exit" menu item which I would like to appear on the Main Menu without scrolling. I don't use the Weather Plug-in very much and would not mind uninstalling it, but have not found information on how to uninstall it. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You can tweak the order of the MenuItem's in the <MenuLayout> section of config.xml.

Backup the file before you edit it though.

In Settings => General => Preferred Style => Horizontal / Vertical, does this refer to how the Main Menu displays? I have tried both the Horizontal and Vertical selections, restarted NPVR. but don't see any difference in the appearance of anything.

Are you using the default skin? I think this is the only skin that uses these new horizontal/vertical option.
