Ok, finally getting a chance to do something with this, and have knocked together a Settings screen for the plugin that contains an "Enable" and a "Disable" button (for doing the obvious).

It's capable of renaming the horizontal/vertical files so NPVR won't see them any more, but I think I may be a bit stuffed with regards to automatically adding the /Skin/MenuType entry into global.xml - editing the xml is ok, but the file can't be re-saved due to an "in use by another process" message (obviously NPVR itself).

There might not be an easy solution but I thought I'd post anyway in case someone can suggest one.

I'm kinda surprised the renames were allowed, because you'd think those files would be in use (and locked) too. Oh well...

Panic over. Turns out I still had a handle to the file open at another point in my code, where it was checking to see if the MenuType entry was there or not.

Sigh. Time for a beer me thinks.
