I normal watch 4x3 pillar box, but I can see the benefits of using the panoramic view that sblueeye talked about here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post403763 because I definitely don't like seeing fat people.

I have created this YouTube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6z0mPefueE to show how the effect works. What you see will be short 15 second segments with

1. Pillar boxed
2. Full screen stretched
3-5 Various levels of wide angle.

You might want to zoom full screen and step back to get the effect.

I used a tennis game since figured the court would give you some perspective of the fish bowl effect of a non-linear stretch, broadcasts don't look quite this extreme.

The purpose of this thread if it is worth adding to mvpmcx2 as either a default or command line replacement for the normal full screen stretch.

No, I don't like that. It bugs me when things are stretched, I'm always telling the kids to "zoom it!" when I see them watching 4:3 stuff stretched to fill the wide screen. The panoramic seems even stranger to me.
What, me worry?

Thanks roy, I pretty much only like watching pillar box so it is tough for me to make the call, that's why I posted this. The video game-like stretch is as odd as any of the others we sadly have to live with it. Perhaps my sample should has been something showing this in a more positive spin as opposed to showing the math.

Tennis certainly seems good at showing the effect. You can clearly see what is happening from those white lines. It obviously doesnt look as comical with all content. Personally I prefer to pillarbox 4:3 content, adding black bars left and right.

We definitely don't like any of the options that change the aspect ratio, so prefer pillarbox.

yeah more by accident than anything to get refresh rate right the tv overscans for some reason so you loose a bit of picture all the way around but that makes it look more right for 4:3 stuff

I've always preferred this "wide angle stretch" over the "full screen stretch". I've never used it to watch tennis, but it works well with other shows.

I'll admit I don't watch a lot of 4:3 stretched but if I did I'd vote for "wide angle stretch".

Just to be difficult I went for 'I'd like to try'. Only because generally we watch 4:3 pillarbox. But stretch does work better with some broadcasts over others. Certainly wouldn't want to see panoramic as default.

cheers
