interlacing is not an option on your tv. It is on the pc. There may be an option to set the interlacing in your nvidia control panel or in the settings of your decoder.

Thanks, will do. The only option I have re refresh rate is 25i. I found a setting called "AI" on the TV. Turning it off softens the edges and makes this less noticable. The TV also has a 100Hz mode - the options options are Auto and Progressive, which make it flicker alot. Is there (likely to be) a way of focing a higher refresh rate - am I on the right track?

Sorry, yes, I did mean is there a way to force a better refresh rate on the PC. I understand the TV does what it does. Not sure what the difference is with those settings - Auto/Progressive/100Hz Mode. There is no noticable difference between Auto and 100Hz, so I guess it never/rarely chooses Progressive when set to Auto. And I suppose Auto only chooses between Progressive and 100Hz - or maybe there are hidden options that I can't select manually. Anyway, I understand the answer here lies with the computer, not the TV.

The system was installed for me, and I haven't looked into the graphics drivers yet, but they are Nvidia drivers (without the word Microsoft appearing anywhere, as I observed recently when letting windows install drivers automatically for my 9600). They are dated 11/01/2010 ver. 8.17.11.9621 in Devices. I will take a look at nvidia's website now to see what I can find and will ask the guy who set it up what he did for drivers for this card. I do have the control panel though. The only thing I can find about interlacing is on the "Adjust video image settings" page. THere is a blurb about my graphics card using PureVideo technology, settings for Edge Enchancement, Noise Reduction and Deinterlacing. The only setting in Deinterlacing is a tick box called "Use Inverse Telecine". Doesn't seem to make any difference.

I got it built for me because it was convenient. It was from someone on trademe who turned out to live 5 minutes away from me. For the case and p/s, mobo, cpu, ram, graphics card and system drive he only charged $260, plus he installed my tuners and extra hard drive as well. Lazy option but convenient.

Oh, and the resolution is currently set to (M/NTSC) 480i, 720 x 480 (recommended) @ 29Hz. This is on the nvidia control panel.

WRONG!! Just double checked this. Turns out it says the driver is signed by the "Micrsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher". I suppose it could be well worth checking nvidia's website for a driver after all (which I was justu about to do anyway).

my nvidia control panel doesn't have much in the way of interlacing. If I had to adjust settings I would look at the decoder settings in npvr. if you click on the ... button in the decoders page of the settings then look for a deinterlacing or interlacing setting. It will most likely say something like auto, force bob, force weave. One of those should fix it for you. Of course I say this and watch there be no options for the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder. I have xp myself so I don't have that decoder.

whats your tv source dvb-s im guessing

1.get nvidia drivers from nvidia (dont care which ,but latest is best)
2. goto 3d settings in nvidia control panel turn pretty much everything off(although not that important these days)but at the bottom wait for vertical sync select force on
3 set resolution to what ever the native resolution of tv is and refresh rate at 50hz 75hz or 100hz which ever it will let you select if it doesnt create a custom resolution at the what ever you old crt can handle best picture will probably be 720x576@50hz or 75hz or 100hz (pal freq is 25 hence the multiples of 25)

Now set up your decoder and select bob for deinterlacing (dont listen to people who say this will lower the picture quality thats BS)
Record the weather tonight and watch the ticker tape at the bottom of the screen(place names with temperatures) scrolling should be smooth if its not it means you have the settings wrong

jaggy edges means not deinterlacing right
jumpy frequency is wrong(refresh)
blurry can be either or both set wrong or resolution the tv doesnt like

If you are looking for a free decoder try the latest FFDshow decoder
to set this up you need to select a decoder under mpeg2
then goto output and select nv10 turn deselect all others
force bob and select force show top field first
(these settings are for nz only before all you yanks start jumping up and down )
