Top of the day all,

I shall pass this up for discussion and see if we can get a consensus of opinion Big Grin

I feel slightly out of my depth here on this thread:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ture-Cards

with regard to what is a hybrid or combo device?

Hauppauge would appear to use both appelations depending on their cards/devices. From what I can make out Pinnacle just use the term hybrid for a device that also has Analog.

And what is the difference in terms of NextPVR use between an Analog Tuner and Analog Capture? If a card has an Analog Tuner does that make it a Combo. And an Analog Capture a Hybrid? Hmmmmmmm......

looking forward to some words of wisdom Wink

cheers all

I would call an "analogue tuner" just that - receives analogue broadcasts. "Analogue Capture" I would consider to be something that takes in video of some form rather than RF, S-Video, Composite video and the like.
Setting up npvr is fairly different between the two although in the same section. Tuner needs frequencies or channels whereas Capture uses a blaster to change channels on an external device.

To avoid vendor terms maybe just indicate whether it is a dual tuner and elaborate on that. The HVR-1600 is dual tuner but it is either analog+qam analog+atsc

Very good Sir Big Grin In fact that makes me wonder whether NextPVR settings for this is not entirely clear in the 1st place? Perhaps if a Video input is selected rather than a Tuner the option for Cable or Antenna could grey out? One for Sub?

For the purposes of this exercise I guess I need to add a further entry for Analog as:

Analog Tuner
or
Analog Capture

thoughts?

cheers

another very good point Martin. I didn't realise that there was an either/or rather than an and on some devices. For instance the Hauppauge HVR-4000 would appear to be a true quad tuner (4 available sources at the same time) whereas you are saying HVR-1600 is only a dual as it is either ATSC or QAM but not both at same time.....

hmmm don't know whether I am getting more confused or seeing the light Big Grin

I don't think you should worry yourself too much about it. Just list the types of capture/tuning available for each device and let the folks who want to buy one worry about the exact specifics of what they can and can't do. Otherwise you'll give yourself a nightmare of a job.

Quite right Iain, I can only go so far. I think for Analog it is worth noting whether it is a Tuner or Capture device. Apart from that I think the either/or on the DVB stuff could get a bit much and just serve to complicate it even more (and tie up my mind in a frenzy of knots Big Grin )

Tell you what though it is a really good way of finding out all the cards available and what they do and helping me to plan what card to buy next for my new system Wink

How's the weather with you? We have had a string of really good days down here and the sun is out again today. Does this mean spring is on the way or is your weather telling a different story?

cheers

Up here it's also a beautiful - and very warm - day. Most of this week has been fine too, although it was little dull yesterday (and still quite cool in the shade today). Car has been washed, we've bought a high-chair, I've a radiator to try and fix, then if I'm lucky I'll get back to some programming too.

What with the lighter evenings now it all puts a much more sunny disposition on everything!

I'm looking forward to seeing what imilne pulls out of the basket next in the programming dept. Saw your Re-clock plugin yesterday but haven't had time to investigate yet. And now Mrs steeb is insisting I drag myself away from my PC's and get some of this 'fresh air' and 'sunshine' thing...... Big Grin

More than I have time for unfortunately.

Videos+ has all but stalled because it's too big a job just now, and scb147 who was working on it too is retiring from the world of HTPCs. System needs various bugs fixed, and a possible move to the new (hidden) menu way of working. TimeSharer needs properly tested with my dual DVB-T/DVB-S setup to see if it works there, then released. SubMenu needs a vertical menu, but I'm not even sure if it's worth the effort. Fixed it for 2.0.3 and about 3 people have downloaded it (Rolleyes). ReClockOrNot is a hack to a problem I wish didn't exist, and Microsoft can go jump off a bridge too for creating Windows in such a rubbish way that we even needs stuff like the yet unwritten AutoRefresh (which might not even work).

That probably all sounded very negative, but I do genuinly enjoy doing this stuff. I even fixed my radiator Big Grin
