This is not a big deal but im curious as to why

While recording timeline is fine till its gets to about half way then it goes to 00:00 and you cant fast forward , but keeps playing fine.

So you just have to watch adds till the end.

Then the recording finishes and today on the server the recording plays fine all the way through time line shows right for whole file

Open up the same file now on client and the time line still goes to 00:00 at about half way

Why?
Where do i start looking ?

Only does it on a few recordings each week (no pattern yet that i can see)
Windows media player and vlc both play file fine(not sure if that means jack shit these days)

If you can make a recording available for download, or throw it on a DVD and mail it to me, I can take a look.

Its probably something like the funny PCR clock numbers. Broadcasters sometimes often funny values for these, and it makes it hard for the application to guess how long the recording is, or where playback is currently up to. During recording (or when playing back from a client) the app has to use these PCR clock values from the stream, so is quite dependent on these numbers. After a recording, playback on the server can use a different mechanism to get timing information.

I have had this problem on a client a few times recently so was not able skip the adverts. On the first occasion several weeks ago I think the time bar was ok on the server but on the most recent occasion the time bar set to zero about half way through a programme on both the server and client.

I've hat this recently with 2.0.3 (not noticed it before this version) but only seems to be in progress recordings. Once the thing has finished recording and I come back to watch it later it's been fine. It was very annoying during the Grand Prix last week as it had hours to go but I didn't want to sit through the guff at the beginning but couldn't skip. The weird thing was it was fine until about an hour in (that's a total guess, I cant remember an accurate time when it went wrong). To summarise, Grand Prix set to record (BBC1 HD if that matters) early in the morning, I get up and start watching the pre amble about an hour after it starts. I get bored and skip bits, all is well, until I'm about an hour in then I get 0.00 timeline and I'm stuffed. Restart (cant resume) and can skip to the same spot then it goes wrong again. I think (but annoyingly cant confirm as I deleted the recording yesterday) that once it had finished recording and I came back to it later in the day I could skip to where I wanted fine. But I'll have to wait until I next record something long and start watching while recording to confirm.
