Hi sub, as discussed earlier I'm still finding the recordings plugin really slow.

Will enclose a Log and the XML file, as It should show you the sorts of times we're seeing almost 30 seconds or longer.

And that the xml file has those two "don't check missing recordings" options set.

Check around 2011-07-05 19:36:15.691 onwards where the wife was starting to watch my kitchen rules. When she hit the end of this recording it took a really long time to get back to the menu, and in this time she'd hit the stop button which resorted everything.

I've got it sitting here waiting in a tab to answer, but a bit snowed under with day job stuff this morning.

NP. I know it wont really be a simple one.
Would reducing the What's New Days help in the interim? Or do you still process everything just not display it?

Its not entirely clear to me what is causing your slow down. Can you try it with the attached patch, then post the npvr.log? It wont fix anything, but it adds a little extra logging.

Here are some log files. One at the new 30 days setting I had. And the 2nd at the original 100 days.

It did seem noticeably faster today. I started npvr, went to tv guide, then recordings (whats new) then ready, and then whats new again.

Nowhere near the 10 seconds probably seen in that first log

Very interesting.

I went back into recordings for something else - in the same npvr session. So after posting those logs to you I switched away and it went to screen saver. Came back about 20 mins later and reentered recordings.

Nothing else had changed, but it now too 12 seconds (if I read your logs right) to load, up from 5.

I don't know if this might be related to your issue or not, but thought that I'd share just in case. I've seen similar, significantly noticeable delays with the various Recordings screens coming up (either coming off the screen saver or after playback of a show ends) at times. I'm pretty sure that when it happens to me, it is because one of the drives used for recordings has been spun-down to save power/wear-and-tear, and the delay is while the drive is spinning back up so that NPVR can read something from it. All of my drives are local, but I'm guessing I'd see similar delays if some of the drives were network drives that had to reconnect. This "delay" is kind of annoying, but we just learned to live with it...

If you want to test, you write a little batch job to just touch each drive you've got files on (do a directory or something), pause a minute, then repeat. Run that in the background on your server for a period and see if it makes any difference.

I also have intermittent problems with big delays in getting the recording screen back after watching something and my drive doesn't power down so I don't think it's that. Besides, the drive has just been in use reading the recording.
