Title says it all really. If anyone is interested in developing a skin plugin for NPVR, I'd be interested in handling the skin part Smile.

If there are any takers, fire off an e-mail to me: thm_gb@yahoo.co.uk and I can pass along what I've been working on with my skin.

Cheers.

I've ummmed and arrred about bringing this one up... Strictly speaking my question is wider... but I thought I would refer to this post by way of a means in.

I had a play today with a very latest MythTV (fedora based) set up running at someone's home on a massive (for me) 52 inch screen.

A few of us 'geeks' looked and played.

Some comments on the SageTV forums also got me thinking.

And some other stuff I have been doing has also got me thinking.

The one thing in common that all these projects appear to have is a single way in and out to install themes/plugins etc via common installers/repositories.

Please explain to Mr simple here why we can't have that with NextPVR?

cheers

Technically there is no reason we cant do the same. We did discuss it at one point, but the plugin developers didnt seem that keen on it, so there didnt seem to much point implementing it.

Nice, thanks sub. So technically no reason why not to? Just no takers?! Not that it is any of my business but I can live with no takers Big Grin Just makes me sleep better knowing not due to a reason why not/limitation of your great software Big Grin

So I guess I pass the question back to the dev's why would you not be keen on implementing this? Sub has provided a rock solid base, from my experience today the 'geeks' were more excited about how the software handled the installers/uninstallers even though in many instances I sat back with a smug smile knowing that NextPVR had greater stability?

cheers

You seem way off topic here steeb, and I don't see the link at all, but none-the-less I was pretty much the only one against the original design because I don't think dll's should be installed outside "Program Files" I did suggest having mine installed by NRecord as a compromise.

He means it doesnt relate to Hairy's original request for a skin plugin (for editing skin files).

Indeed, but I did state:

Quote:... Strictly speaking my question is wider...

and

Quote:but I thought I would refer to this post by way of a means in.

of course this is all semantics.

I believe I know EXACTLY what Hairy asked for in his original post. Yes he was asking specifically about a SKIN plugin. By implication he was asking for a common agreement. But the thesis as far as I can make out is all the same. And if Martin really doesn't like me asking about it in this way then as I asked Martin where and how should I ask this?

I believe Martin has already given the answer anyway:

Quote:I was pretty much the only one against the original design because I don't think dll's should be installed outside "Program Files" I did suggest having mine installed by NRecord as a compromise.

So I pose the question back to Martin who appears to be taking full responsibility for the fact that this never happened?

I don't have too much more too say, other than it is unfortunate I missed this thread the first time, I would have helped Hairy out.

I continue to lament Hairy's departure. The man worked magic.

As for the plugin repository -- it's an idea that I like in principal, but can't get excited about in practice. First, I'm in agreement with mvallevand's opinion of putting executable code outside in the Documents / Users tree. It feels icky. It's just not a home for DLLs. Second, of the three small works on which I'm muddling through, each of them require some level of config work after installation. As such, any sort of "install with the click of a remote" advantage is (for me) immediately lost anyway. And with that advantage lost, why bother going to the effort in the first place?

Unless, of course, sub is lamenting the lack of something do to... which strikes me as unlikely.
