I just put together a brand new PC that I will use for my testing. Everything is installed, and the DCR works in WMC. I installed the Hauppauge driver from their website. The device does not show up in config, but the logs look like the program found it. I wonder if the Hauppauge site is not installing everything we need. There are no other tuners installed.

soccerdad,

Does the new PC have the HDHomeRun software installed? Currently, sub's implementation for the DCR-2650 requires that. He said that in the future, he plans to remove that requirement.

That was it. I did not remember installing it on the other machine before I got it working.

Thanks.

Did you already have a Classic HDHR installed on the other machine? If so, you would have already had the software on there. (At least, I did.)

Well this installation has problems. I have it all configured and now get zero byte recordings and/or black screen/lockups for live TV. I can play shows I recorded from the videos plugin so I think my decoders are set correctly. If I reboot everything, then start live TV, the DCR starts (light turns on) and then the screen just goes black. If I go to the Hauppauge utility, it says I am on the correct channel. If I pick the same channel in the HDHomerun utility, the show comes up instantly. The logs look like everything is fine to me. Firewall is open to the HDHomerun program. Now what am I missing???

I just had a problem with a 0 byte recording

, too. If you put in the latest NShared.dll patch from that thread, you might want to try going back to the previous one from that thread. I think that last one may have a problem.

No I have not even had a chance to change that .dll. I was hoping somehow that it would help. I guess not.

I am a little frustrated at the moment. I have thrown everything I know at it. It would not be so bad if it just fails, but everytime it makes npvr non-responsive and I have to kill it. Then to get npvr to actually get the tuner to attempt again, (I can tell by the light going on the tuner), I have to reboot the system.

Edit: I just found that I can stop the recording service, the start the recording service and it will again attempt to tune. You have to do this from the menu option since the crash also kills the tray icon function. ie, no restart service button. At least I don't have to reboot the PC each time.

Well little progress
I went ahead and moved the DCR to yet another PC. It too has a clean Win 7 install and I installed a fresh copy of NPVR, the HDHomerun software from the CD, DirectX9c, Dotnet 4 (for the HDHomerun software), AC3 filter for sound, and Visual C++. AM I MISSING ANYTHING???

I get exactly the same problem with 0 byte files and lockups. I have tried both versions of the driver. (the one on the disk and the new one)

So it seems like I am missing something else to get this thing to record.

I am grasping at straws here. I also tried asking VLC to open a network stream at rtp://192.168.32.234:5000 (stream address found in the logs) and it could not.

I can view from the HDHomerun set up program so the tuner is alive and well.

I'm just grasping here, too...

If you go to the DCR management screen with a web browser, does it show the CableCard activated? And does the Tuner status screen show that it is streaming? (i.e. the Streaming rate is something > 0%)

You said that the firewall is "open to the HDHomerun Program", but what about NRecord.exe? NRecord is the one that would need to be reading that stream. (Or VLC when you tested it.) Have you tried turning of all firewalls temporarily to see if that made any difference?

Thanks Brett
You are the MAN! It was NPVR not being allowed through the firewall. I only tested streaming to VLC with the firewall off, not the obvious to NPVR. For others, you need to allow NPVR.exe through the firewall.

It must already be allowed through my other system for my PCH streaming.

Now back to the fun...

THANKS!!!
