However, for encrypted channels the Hauppauge WinTV-CI module will not support encryption of S2 Channels due to USB2 bandwidth restriction. It is working well with a Multidec solution. \\Agerdin

Not that I'd be using it with any encrypted stuff, but what has USB got to do with it? I thought it was a PCI-e card? It's blimmin' expensive, but I only have 1 PCI slot on my mobo, but 2 PCI-e, so two of them is probably the most cost-effective (and sub-compatible ) upgrade I could do, short of changing the motherboard. I assume there wouldn't be bandwidth issues with two of them running together; potentially with each one recording multiple channels from different transponders (one transponder per card)? The wife will kill me if I buy them anytime soon though, having just changed the motherboard, CPU, memory, HDD, and graphics card in the last couple of months!

Ah, ok. Thanks.

So, does that mean there is a ci module that is a pci version? If I would get that, I'd need a ca module also, right? My satellite provider (canal digital in sweden), claims that I *have* to have one of these:
http://www.elgiganten.se/product/ljud-bi...?scid=1698 If I understand correctly, that is a ca-module, and as such it needs to go into a ci-slot. But with dvb-s2 transmissions, I can't use the usb version of the ci slot from hauppauge, right?
I'm not always right

The WinTV-CI works pretty well, but unfortunately needs to send the entire transport stream from the device over the USB bus to the device for decryption then back to the PC. This is generally fine for DVB-S and DVB-T, but some DVB-C and DVB-S2 transponder have a bitrate too high and its not possible for the USB bus to keep up with this bi-directional traffic.
There are other options for DVB-T/S/C, with cards like TechnoTrend C-1500, which has an optional CI daughter card available. These work with NPVR and are used by a few users here. Unfortunately they dont do a S2 variety of that family though. In theory the TBS-5980 does what you need. It is a external USB DVB-S/S2 tuner, with integrated CI slot. A couple of months back I added CI support for this device, but I cant test it here, and I dont think anyone else has tested it, so very unconfirmed at this stage.

Would a TBS-6920 DVB-S2 card likely work on S2 channels? I'm sure there was a thread discussing TBS cards... I need another S2 tuner and it's either that or a HVR-4400 but they are getting on for 3 times the cost of these... I've run out of PCI slots. Guess I could replace the HVR-1100 with a 4000 and have 2x4000s in there, but I'm concerned it'll keep trying to use the tuner of a card that's already in use and fail...
