They're funky. Had a conversation with some folks here once upon a time about that very thing, but can't find it just now. I can watch them fine, but should I strip the commercials and try to compress, things go funky. AutoGK finds way more frames than it expects and sometimes refuses to continue. If it finishes both passes, the resulting compressed file consistently has weird audio issues. Sometimes it has background audio (like car noises, wind, music etc) but no dialog. Sometimes the sync is way off (like 30 minutes, not milliseconds). Whatever happens, it doesn't happen to my Fox or NBC keepers, just ABC. I remember these issues going back to Lost and more recently, V.
If I ever had a solution I can't recall what it was. This weekend I've been working with some files. I've tried VideoRedo Plus' quickstream fix, no help. I tried using videoredo to reencode the audio track (helps when there's a signal interruption and slight audio sync issues), no help. I tried mpeg2repair, no help. Now I've demuxed and remuxed with tsmuxer and am awaiting results.
Anyone else ever run into anything like this, or have any suggestions?
