When I create an All Channels recurring recording, it creates a recurring recording entry with a begin and end time. However this time range is ignored - no matter what I change the time to, it still records all the episodes during any time. I'm assuming this is acting as intended, it's not exactly a bug - I gather there's a hidden flag that tells it that it's an 'any timeslot' kind of recording.

What I'd like then is a way to make an All Channels recurring recording, but have it record only episodes that occur during a range of time I set.

My current problem is some kids' shows that play a half-dozen or more times a day including a couple of 'primetime' slots. I'm happy to let it record those during the wee hours of the morning or during the day, but I don't want it recording kids' shows during the evening when I have more important things to record. I know it will eventually be possible to re-order the priorities of the recurring recordings, but even then it would be a pain to have to keep moving the kids' shows to the bottom of the list every time I want to schedule a new primetime recording.

Could you use the advanced rules as per this example from the wiki

title LIKE '%news%' AND time(start_time,'localtime') > time('hh:mmConfuseds') AND time(start_time,'localtime') < time('hh:mmConfuseds')

yes, thanks, I've since seen that I could do it with a hand-entered advanced rule.

however, as npvr allows one to specify a time-slot for a recording, it would seem logical for it to go ahead and obey the time-slot I set.

I can think of several examples where this could be used to reduce duplicate recordings.

While on the subject of manuel recordings which I use regularly, I have often thought that it would be a good idea if fields which are ignored when using Advanced Rules, such as "Date", "Start Time" & "End Time" be blanked out to avoid confusion.
